Resetting the Campaign?

Recommended Posts

I've flown the campaign all the way through as the Russians and now I'd like to try it as the Germans. I realise that i can generate individual missions but it there any way I can reset it so I have to get the ten successful mission per chapter?

Thanks.

You can't reset the progress in the campaign, but you can fly for either side

The problem is that I've now finished it and want to start again. Pity if you can only play it once as designed.

The ability to restart with a different aircraft/airforce  is a very missing feature/option that many would like

Even if this feature was only available if one had reached "level 10" and finished all "unlocks" it would still help re-playability with other aircraft at lower levels

Yeah kinda sucks as the difficulty is always set to whatever level you are. Maybe the could have the difficulty set by side and even better per aircraft

+1, would this really be so hard to implement?

It would be a nice feature to be able to reset your progress, but ATM I'd recommend just doing the campaign from the beginning and keeping track of how many missions you've done for each chapter.

Agreed, the ability to reset our progress would be a very useful feature.

In addition, the campaign "mission generator" may be developing with each update (obviously, I have no way of knowing, but I have my suspicions!).

I'd have thought it'll probably be revamped a bit (I'm talking about the underlying mechanics of the generator) for the release of BOM, and it would great to have another go at the Stalingrad campaign with the (assuming there is some) new technology.

(I still think the campaign generator is a great idea - I'd love to go back to those early chapters and fly the missions without having Level 7 or 8 (or 9!) opposition!

I'm currently reflying as the Germans and quite enjoying it (although I still mumble to myself in Russian, flying for the enemy seems just wrong). The F4 is great, gets out of any difficulty with ease but I took a G-2 Kanonenboot last mission and it feels so sluggish by comparison (although the IL-2's get hamered). Overall i find the biggest risk is having to navigate/hunt below low cloud - you're vulnerable at low level and too close to the flak. Clear sky days are much better but few and far between.

I never thought of a campaign in a "Flight Sim" as something you just fly once and then discard. I guess this shows how limiting having your single player experience tied to the developers servers is...you have zero control to fly the way you want to.

Tatarenko,

How did you manage to do it, reinstall the game?

No I'm just going back to the finished chapters and reflying till I get 10 successful missions in each. Currently I have 1 draw (shot down escorting fighters but couldn't find the target Il-2's) and 1 loss (I never even saw him in the cloud) and 6 wins. The "find the IL-2's in the cloud" missions are getting wearing as I fly with no nav aids whatsoever.

Didn't know the campaign cannot be reset. Pity.

One explanation for the omission of the campaign restart could be due to the unlocks. The pilot level and the unlocks work together.

But given that most of us can unlock all the unlocks from the beginning anyway this doesn't seem to be a big issue. And (like me) you could have a high pilot level but zero unlocks on the German planes having never flown them.

I agree with you Tatarenko. I was playing the campaign with the IL2 and then I realized that with my pilot level will be difficult to achieve other aircraft skin unlocks. Since them I tend to equally fly all or at least the ground attack ones due to the effectiveness of the late pilot level flak.

You might want to look at your tactics - flak isn't that much of a danger at any level. You can hit trains, convoys and artillery very safely. Airbase raids are trickier but if you zoom in and choose your target for a single pass (look for clustered He-111's and trucks) you can generally get out fine. It's hanging around that causes trouble. I also avoid taking on tank groups as they often have Flak halftracks. Trains are best attacked from the front at very low level. Artillery is unrealistically placed in rows and a strafe along a row will generally net you a mission complete in one pass. Convoys are OK if you let them start moving again as it takes a while to pack and unpack the halftrack guns.

In general, concentrate on NOT shooting the flak - for that you have to fly towards them, an easy kill for them. Ignore them and hit your targets.

And avoid the pointless rockets. 2x 250kg bombs work much better, esp vs artillery and airbases.

The pilot level and the unlocks work together.

Unlocks are coupled with progress of aircraft, not pilot level. You can check it in profile.

What about the campaigns with the new autumn and summer maps?

If the pilot level stay the same, will be a problem for me. Or each campaign will have a different pilot (and so start over with level)?

AFAIK, some information about it should be posted in one of the next developer diaries.
