Uriah Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Moving clouds would be a cool thing for an aircraft sim of any sort. I don't recall ever seeing such a thing. I have forgotten if BoS or any other sim has moving clouds.
coconut Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 I think they do, unless it my memory is playing tricks on me. To confirm, one can record a few minutes of a mission, then replay it accelerated.
[APAF]VR_Spartan85 Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 I thinking Rise of Flight actually has this feature if I'm not wrong.
Habu Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 (edited) Yes clouds move with wind. Edited September 13, 2015 by Habu
-TBC-AeroAce Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I think it is a feature but depends on server settings. I have defo made repeated high level bombing trips over a target where the clouds was in the same position for the whole game. But also I have seen them move
Alkyan Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I guess if wind is set to zero clouds won't move !
Finkeren Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Yep they move. Set up a quick mission, where you start parked on the airstrip with scattered clouds in strong winds (12 m/s is the highest I think). You'll see the clouds moving at the correct speed. It's quite simple and nothing close to 'dynamic weather modelling' (which I don't think any flight sim has really managed thus far) but it looks the part.
Habu Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I guess if wind is set to zero clouds won't move ! You're right, that's why i said they move with wind. It's up to the mission builder to set the wind. By default it's on no wind in the mission editor.
6./ZG26_Emil Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I guess if wind is set to zero clouds won't move ! and I suspect that many servers have wind on the ground to give some challenge for take offs and landings but it's set low or zero higher up.
-TBC-AeroAce Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 (edited) and I suspect that many servers have wind on the ground to give some challenge for take offs and landings but it's set low or zero higher up.Its always the opposite of this in game and in real life due to boundary layer and coriolus effects with the exception of wind shear which is a function of weather phenomenon such as storms or jet stream or large geographical features such as mountains or buildings... Look in to wind backing and veering Edited September 14, 2015 by [TBC]AeroACE
SYN_LennysCopilot Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 A Zen koan: One student said: "The clouds are moving." A second student said: "The wind is moving." The Master said: "It is not the clouds or the wind that move. It is the Mind that moves." Sorry, I couldn't resist.
