-TBC-AeroAce Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 Far too many changes would need to be made to make it look like a plausible 1940s-era map. The point is we could still have another map with little work needed from devs. God why does everything have to be so real and plausible all the time lol
Finkeren Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 So much wrong with this idea. Aside from the fact that the two sims aren't compatible at all, there's just a ton of things that wouldn't work. For one thing: Where would we take off and land? 1
DD_Arthur Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 (edited) I know it won't happen but The point is we could still have another map with little work needed from devs. I think this is true. If you look at the area of the RoF channel map you could create a very plausible '41/'42 scenerio involving RAF ramrod and anti-shipping missions and LW hit and run attacks against English south coast towns and north sea convoys. With the release of BoM we would have the required LW plane set. The RAF would need the Spitfire mk.V, possibly the Hurricane - which would also be a very welcome addition to BoM and the Blenhiem and/or Beaufighter. We'd also need shipping in the form of E-boats, a German Flak ship, an RN destroyer and MTB models, some armed trawlers and as an added bonus the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau for a channel dash scenerio. You'd obviously need to model RAF and LW airfields but the rest of the infrastructure is there. Nothing too much changed along the south coast of England in the inter-war years. No new railway lines were laid and not too much development took place. I suspect the same is true of the coast of the low countries opposite. Food for thought? You don't know that it would require "little work needed from devs." 2. In its current form it_would_not look acceptable as a WWII-era map, period. The posts above this one make it quite clear it would take a lot of work to make it, well...plausible.

The Channel map lays a pretty good foundation but you're right, porting an entire map over to a modified/updated engine and updating it for 20 years of difference (new national borders, towns grow or fade away, new roads are paved, etc.) is a pretty monumental task. 1
Uufflakke Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 I know it won't happen but Indeed. Better is to wait untill the Murmansk map is finished. Plenty of water. http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/5594-will-there-be-other-maps/page-16
