Uriah Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 I noticed in some of the screen shots reflections of trees, hills, and sky on the rivers. Does any other sim do this? It is a pretty cool feature for an air combat sim.
6./ZG26_Emil Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Probably but it looks cool all the same
Livai Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Does it have refraction? Zak, said no! The game engine not support refraction
Alkyan Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 No water refraction? Too bad, it could have been cool for the upcoming submarine module..
Uufflakke Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Does it have refraction? Zak, said no! The game engine not support refraction The question was about reflection. Not refraction. 1
Freycinet Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 The question was about reflection. Not refraction. Yes, I demand a retraction! 2
[CPT]milopugdog Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Yes, I demand a retraction! German pull out game is weak
Guest deleted@50488 Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 X-Plane and P3D do it.... ( reflections in water, I mean... ) Outerra does it as well.
ShamrockOneFive Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Il-2 Forgotten Battles did it and LOMAC did it and everything else since has done it too. But I do have to say that what we've seen of the work in progress shots are stunning and exceptionally well done.
Finkeren Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 even the old 1946 has this feature But there it looked like crap tbh. In RoF it's quite well done, and in BoS it promises to be downright gorgeous.
Potenz Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 But there it looked like crap tbh. In RoF it's quite well done, and in BoS it promises to be downright gorgeous. Yeah, but for the time is was astonishing to see your plane and world reflecting like that. RoF water is amazing but there's something that i don't like and hope it will be adressed in BoS/BoM is the lack of transparency for shallow waters, using just a texture for it, that makes it look odd when a plane crashland and the parts submerged disappears under the texture. Now many games has through water transparency since the silent hunter III IRC.
Finkeren Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Now many games has through water transparency since the silent hunter III IRC. It would be a nice little touch, but let's be honest: Silent Hunter games have more use for realistic water effects than we do. We mainly need it to look good from above. One thing I'm interested in though: Will different wind settings have influence on how the surface of the water looks? Will there be visible waves on the lakes in strong winds? And if so: Will raindrops hitting calm water create realistic rain ripples like this:
Livai Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 How it looks if a plane crash into water.. How bullets react with the water. There are a lot question but no answer for it. Maybe it is to much from everything
1CGS LukeFF Posted September 14, 2015 1CGS Posted September 14, 2015 How it looks if a plane crash into water.. How bullets react with the water. There are a lot question but no answer for it. Load up ROF, and you'll have a good idea of what to expect.
Livai Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Load up ROF, and you'll have a good idea of what to expect. RoF is a 2009 Game. We write 2015 and here I expect more much more improvement. Maybe you can help me a little out with some screenshots from the newest build what improvements over RoF are to expect. Is this not a great Idea? 1

-TBC-AeroAce Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Typically what is missing and hard to model correctly with water is turbulence of the water. And actually only very calm, almost still water is reflective

It's the same graphics engine with only a few minor updates. It will look mostly the same I think. I think RoF's water is done very well though, so although it won't be new, it will be good.
Alkyan Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 But I remember something about their new technologies for water
Dakpilot Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I believe there was a 'tech' upgrade with RoF in respect to water on the Channel Map, which I understood was not available on the default standard maps? Maybe that is what will be integrated into BoS perhaps there are those more familiar with the Changes/new features the Channel Map brought who could spread some light Cheers Dakpilot

Habu Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Wasn't the tech upgrade for the ability to take off and land on water? Yes and submarine.
216th_Peterla Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Yes and submarine. Sorry to ask a silly question but what means submarine?
Dakpilot Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 There is a German and British Submarine in Rise of Flight I do not have the Channel Map so am unfamiliar with them Cheers Dakpilot
6./ZG26_Emil Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 There is a German RoFUboat.png and British Submarine in Rise of Flight I do not have the Channel Map so am unfamiliar with them RoFsub.png Cheers Dakpilot Wow that is cool
Dakpilot Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 This vid shows reflections in water very nicely Cheers Dakpilot
SYN_Haashashin Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 And the subs actually dive if they spot you, then all you can see its it's telescop....well those with good eyes see it hehehe
Potenz Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 but yet no water transparency to track the sub at periscope depth
Finkeren Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 but yet no water transparency to track the sub at periscope depth That can wait a bit I think. In any case we won't have a map with a significant body of water to warrant such an effect at least untill we get the Murmansk map.
6./ZG26_Emil Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 but yet no water transparency to track the sub at periscope depth Wouldn't that hammer FPS? Is the last silent hunter DX9 btw? Just curious. This vid shows reflections in water very nicely Cheers Dakpilot That really looks amazing, I really should reinstall ROF one of these days

SCG_Space_Ghost Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Some technology like this will practically be mandatory for any future escapades in to the MTO.
DD_Arthur Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Some technology like this will practically be mandatory for any future escapades in to the MTO. Mmmm....the med. Subs, carriers, convoys, yes please. Another view of RoF water technology;
Goanna1 Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 Wouldn't it be good if we could use the Channel map from ROF in this series until we get a map with appropriate water bodies in it. Especially for the users her that have the purchased the ROF map and series.

Goanna1 Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 Yes I think I remember at info, But would be good to hope. If compatible I would re-purchase map to use in Quick missions
