I have been thinking about getting online more often and doing the Teamspeak thing, and wasn't happy with my mic setup, so I have switched from my Bose headphones to a Logitech G-35 headset.  I like the G-35, it's comfortable and sounds great, but here are 2 observations:

1. The sound of the radio communications used to be deafening, to the point where I would need to turn down the volume as it would drown out the engines.  This is no longer the case with the G35, the radio comms are much more subdued, so I'm happy with that.

2.  Unfortunately, now I'm not hearing flak nor or my aircraft being hit when it takes damages.  I'll just look up and see chunks out of the canopy or holes in the wing, but I didn't hear diddly.  Not liking that very much; The hits sounds used to be jolting, and now they don't exist.

I've heard of this issue before, but the couple of fixes I tried to no avail.  Anyone know of a fix or am I just SOL?

I had that issue

right click on the sound icon next to time and date

click playback devices

right click the g35 headphone icon and click configure headset.

Check and mess around with the type of sound (surround, 7.1, etc) until you find the one that gives you your sound back. I had to go to stereo for some reason but that fixed it for me.

Thanks.  Unfortunately, I only have one option under configure, and that is 7.1 Surround.

Hmm - that might be part of your problem (and I don't have those headphones so I don't know what the solution or workaround might be).  IIRC, back when everyone was all hot and bothered about the sound bug/problem of not being able to hear hits on your own plane, many people using just stereo/headphones (like me) were reporting no problem hearing those sounds whereas many people having the problem were saying they were using surround sound systems/settings.  I'm not sure how that whole issue played out or if they ever managed to fix the issue with any of the recent updates.

Maybe there's some way in Windows/Control Panel or something to force those headphones to use just plain stereo/headphone settings instead of surround, so you can test to see if that helps.  (I'm still using my old Razer headset/mic combo, and it's working great - I hear a lot of those sounds (hits on my plane) every time I fly :)  )

Good luck!

Thanks Panth.

Well, no luck configuring them to play stereo, and turning off surround via the switch makes BOS sound only come out of the right speaker.  But I found a setting under enhancements called "speaker fill" (creates a virtual environment for playback in stereo), and it worked pretty well.  I got hit sounds in the IL2, Lagg, Yak, and Pe-2.  Thought I was full on good to go but when I tried the LA5 I heard some of the hits, but not all of them.  Ahh, well, it appears to be better than it was.

It would be interesting to track this problem based upon you audio setup.

Either 2.0 or actual 5.1 from a sound card or 5.1 from USB devices like those headphones.

I use either a USB 5.1 speaker system (although they're virtual surround with two speakers and a subwoofer, Windows is set for 5.1)

or simple stereo headphones. And I don't recall too much trouble with hit sounds. Maybe when I get my PC running again with Windows 10 I'll check it deliberately. I was thinking of trying those Logitech surround headphones too at some point.

The fact that changing from one set of  headphones to another and losing hit sounds points to a hardware/driver/compatibility problem

maybe more hardware/settings info from those suffering from this issue could sort this issue out for more people, rather than its all 'borked ' posts and get to the bottom of this problem for every user

just a thought

The thing to do here is send an actual big report to 1CGS Support with as much info as possible. A track from the game, settings and your DX Diag etc. try to get a situation where you can make it repeat and make a track.

Thanks for the suggestions.

if your headphones are virtual sorround as i guess from being 7.1(no way there are 7 speakers in each headphone) probably theres an switch on the hardware to go from virtual dolby to just stereo

If I switch off surround then almost all the sound comes out of the right speaker.  That doesn't happen with youtube or in CLoD, and I haven't tried it any other games yet.  I can somewhat "correct" it by severely adjusting the balance, but I loathe a feeble workaround and it doesn't sound nearly as good as with surround enabled.

I've played around with it for a couple of hours this morning, and I'm happy with using the "speaker fill" enhancement (right click taskbar volume/playback devices/click the headset device/properties/enhancements/check "speaker fill").  The rest are unchecked.  Also under the advanced tab I unchecked both options in the "Exclusive mode" section.

Depending on where I'm hit, I am getting a convincing range of hit sounds from subdued to skull shattering.  So far, so good.

I have the same problem with my old AudigyII sound card.

Every time I start the computer with Win 10 64bit I have to

go to the Audio control panel in your ''Control panel'' section.

It keeps on going to default 7.1 and I have to put it to headphones

or I have your issues in all my games.

My Sennheiser PC 350 headset is not the problem.
