Have You Ever Considered .....

..... How lucky we are to have what we have in the way of computer flight simulations? No this is not meant to be a "FanBoy" post though it may seem like it. Programing and graphics capabilities have brought us some marvelous products such as IL-2 1946, IL-2 Cliffs of Dover, Rise of Flight, DCS, and now IL-2 Battles (BoS & BoM). And even though we as individuals have many varying views as to how we think things should be or not, we can all agree, I think, that it's gotten better and better visually.

But I wonder how many of you ever though just how much goes into programming such things as Flight simulators. I talking about the actual programming and not the decisions that have to be made to balance out a game. I'm referring to the 0's & 1's that all come together to furnish us with an almost epic experience just short of the real thing. The detail in todays modern Flight/Combat simulations is just beyond words. And I dare say if all of us could afford the best computers out there that the developers could put us in utter aw as to the realism. But, as most of us know, this whole thing is a balancing act that has no end. To insure that most all computers, old or new, can run the programs, some sacrifice has to be made. Balance has to be decided.

In spite of all the comments, good and bad, that have been heaped on the developers like Oleg Maddox and the many others, THEY have brought us some beautiful works. True some were NOT finished or up to par. But they did furnish a firm base to continue their works as is witnessed here in Bos & BoM.

We may never all totally agree that any of these flight simulations are just as they should be. But I think we can all agree we have a lot to be thankful for in that these few developers and programmers are working to please "US" instead of doing a new release of MY LITTLE PONEY.

I take exception to your comment about My Little Pony :(

The rest I can only agree with though :good:

Agree.

It's mind boggling how complex some of the software has become.

Imagine they send guys to the moon with some museum piece of hardware (in those days it was state of the art) and software. With some 64Kb they landed the damn thing roughly where they aimed at.

I believe every bit was right.

Today's software is so much more complex that debugging and Alpha/Beta testing is a necessity.

Graet point Chief the work put into a sim is hard work and yes I disagree with a lot that's said in here but hopefully I don't make a fool out of myself.

I couldn't agree more Chief, I tell my squadmates that where else can you go to have so much fun like this together. and sure some things might not be what we like but on the flip side of that is they got a lot right also and as long as they have more right than not im too busy having fun at flying sims (since the mid 80s) to complain about it. keep it coming guys :-).
