Is it possible to unpatch?

S!

I bought this game recently (on steam) and unfortunately I'm very disappointed because of all the stuttering, laggy head movement, fps drops for no reason, etc...

I have an upper mid range gaming laptop (16gb / i7 / gtx 860m 4gb) and Il2 Clod and WT run smooth enough for me on max presets.

After one week of googling, it seems that I'm not the only one and some people are saying that 1.009 patch introduced all these problems and unfortunately things haven't changed much ever since. I have no hope but still want to ask if there's a possibility to go back to before 1.009.

I think that this game has a huge potential and still don't think buying it was a mistake. Being an old Il2 series fan, I always want to support ww2 flight sim community.

Thanks.

I don't believe you'll be revert to an earlier version.  I'm not experiencing what you are at all, but cutting off the cinematic effect (under camera control I think) might help with laggy head movement.

You can't downgrade... one of the flaws of the current system. On the other side of the coin everyone is always up to date with the very latest.

That said, I don't think we've lost any performance. If anything the game keeps getting more optimized and it generally runs better than it has at any point in the past. The placebo effect is strong for the odd person with a legitimate hardware issue that just so happens to coincide with the 1.009 patch (or insert patch number here).

The laggy head movement suggests a configuration issue. Could be drivers, could be something else. We'll need more information on your system.

What Juri said might help if your laptop has a hybrid graphics driver. If it has just the discreet GTX 860m then it won't apply.

I have only experienced improvements in performance with the recent patches, many people have experienced problems with Laptops running the  CPU onboard graphics rather than the dedicated one

This person has same graphics as you, maybe a solution in that thread, I don't think you can revert to an earlier version

Thank you guys for your quick replies.

When I first launched the game 10 days ago, I saw a horrible 5 fps menu screen. :) So switching to my nvidia gpu was the first thing I did and the game breathed immediately.

I tested the game today on my desktop pc at work which has pretty much the same specs with my laptop (except for being a desktop pc so obviously more juice and it has a gtx 750 ti instead of gtx 860m), the game was clearly much smoother. Then I came home, thought maybe it was the drivers and reinstalled every nvidia geforce thing on my laptop. Still not much luck.. :( The fps can easily drop from 50fps to 25fps when I'm looking at a 8 plane dogfight. Doing a fast complete head turn appears like 3 image slide show which is the most annoying. Going back from ultra to low preset improves a little the general frame rates but not the head movement. I have no or less stutters if I turn slowly so reducing the mouse acceleration helped as a side effect.

In ultra settings, monitoring showed my cpu at around 30% usage while in game and my gpu between 60% and 80% (and very strangely, at 100% in game menus).

Maybe I'll have to admit that my gtx 860m just can't give enough smoothness to this game. But I still find this strange. Hopefully a new patch will improve things for me.

Thank you again. I appreciate your help.

If you are using a force feedback joystick, the jerky head movement is fixed setting camera smoothness to 100 in the game settings menu. Not sure if this is your issue, but worth a try.

To see whether it is purely overwhelming your GPU set the resolution to a very low setting and note any improvements

Unfortunately using Ultra settings with this GPu is probably being a bit over enthusiastic  ;)

I don't have a ff joystick but setting smoothness to 100 and all the inertia to 0 helped a little for the head movement. Thanks for the tip. It's actually hiding the problem, I guess in my case, rather than really solving it. :)

I also tried at balanced settings at 720p instead of ultra at 1080p, it's just a little bit better, maybe +4-5 fps but in other games, in general, that would double the performance. Maybe my cpu isn't muscled enough... But why is it running only at 30% then? That's why I think there must be something strange I'm not able to explain...

I'm doing all these benchmarks in a 8 to 8 quick dogfight mission. I think I'll be flying lighter campaign missions for some time in which the game remains more playable for me. ;)

Thank you as always for your help.

Have you checked if the power option of your laptop is set to "High Performance"? Cuz I made this mistake once and the FPS dropped dramatically.

Thanks urdoomed. I almost said bingo :) For some reason my laptop had switched to 'balanced'. But unfortunately trying the game again on 'high performance' didn't seem to improve anything. :(

I want to stop looking for perfection and to say hey, this is the most I can get with my laptop but I found in other forums, other guys having the same problems with much better hardware (not posting here cos some of them are angry :)). In one of them, someone replied after playing it first time after almost a year, that everything in the game (including the menus) seemed slower. That's why I had thought at first, it must be because of a patch but I guess it's not that either...

Anyway, no worries. Thank you all for your advice. I'll wait and see if a future patch can improve it for me. If my laptop is the culprit, after sometime, I'll be investing for a new machine anyway probably after the release of Occulus.

probably after the release of Occulus.

This title doesn't support Occulus and does not use the DirectX 12 (or was it DX11...) that the Occulus requires... Be warned.
