I've been flying for about a month and a half, spent about 20 hours in single player getting to grips with the game (It's the first sim I've ever played). I bought this game with teamplay and online in mind, so threw myself into the deep end and started flying with a squadron on WoL..

Granted, I have been shot down by the likes of Arhangel plenty of times, but every time I fly a sortie I learn from a mistake or judge a deflection shot better than before. I've seen at least a few people post this on the forums, and it maybe be a bit cliché, but practice really does make perfect.

Flying with more experienced pilots is the best thing you can do for yourself, they will watch your six and advise you during and after combat. Another good way to get to grips with flying against people instead of AI is jumping on a duel server with someone. Personally I've stayed away from the normal server as it somewhat kills immersion for me, is prone to teaching bad habits and gives me horrible flashbacks to when I played War Thunder.

Lastly, although it is advisable to pick a plane and stick to it until you learn it's limits and how to play to its strengths until you move on to the next, taking out a Yak (hypothetically, if you are an axis player like myself) can really help you gain perspective and understand how your opposition is going to fly.

Personally, this game is too awesome to throw the towel in, you will always have old hares in any gaming community that are going to annihilate you as soon as you make the slightest mistake (CS:GO comes to mind), it just makes it all the more sweeter when you get the drop on them and take revenge for the last ten times they shot you down.
