Autoleveller/autopilot on the He 111

I've a couple of questions related to the autoleveller/autopilot (LShft+A) on the He 111 H-6.

1.  I want the autopilot to hold my compass course, but continue climbing with the aircraft. This is the equivalent of the Stellung 2 on a Siemens Kurssteuerung K4ü. Is there a way to do this?

2.  I've noticed that sometimes the autoleveller/autopilot switches itself on automatically. It seems that if you hold a steady and nearly-level course, it assumes that you want to be level and switches on. However, at higher altitudes, I actually want a really gentle climb. How can I prevent the autoleveller from doing this?

No, the thing in the game don't try simulate the Kurssteuerung, is just a generic "autopilot for level flight" - include for fighters.

Sounds to me like you are inadvertently enabling the level autopilot, because there is nothing in the game that assumes you want to fly a level course in the He 111.

If you go to the bombsight the level autopilot kicks in. Maybe that's what's happening?

That's a pity.

 

Some extra degrees of course control would be useful for the long bomber flights, as it gives a chance to set bombs, do course plotting, etc. all while climbing. Sure, I can set up the trim really carefully, but it always drifts a bit.

Yes. That was it.

 

I would go to "pilot view", switch off auto pilot and start a slight climb. Then, I'd press "V" to see the bomb sight, so I could set up the series length, etc. as I fly out to target, but then it was switching on the autoleveller.
