thomasruffley Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Hi I've just loaded my Battle of Stalingrad on Windows 10 with a Black Widow Speedlink controller. Cannot take off at all because the plane keeps turning in a circle while it is standing on the ground so I compensate by pressing on the left rudder and then when I take any pressure off the rudder it quickly reverts to the right and crashes. So I haven't got in the air yet. Please can anyone help. Tom
coconut Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 1. Check your key mapping has not assigned multiple conflicting axes to the rudder axis 2. Depending on the aircraft, excessive engine torque can lead to difficulties in taxiing, forcing you to use rudder and brakes to go straight. It takes a bit of practicing before getting comfortable with taxiing. Which aircraft are you having difficulties with? With Russian aircraft, try the yak or the il2. With the Germans, try with the bf109 (f4 or g2). The pe2 (Russians) or he111 (Germans) are pretty easy too when lightly loaded.
Urra Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Try to adjust elevator trim down to 50-75 percent down before take off. I think this happens because trim is all the way up.
gabuzomeu Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 If you use expert difficulty, the torque effect depends on the assigned propeller speed: put it to max rpm/ fine, and increase progressively. Iirc lagg is the worse,
=EXPEND=Tripwire Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 1. Check your key mapping has not assigned multiple conflicting axes to the rudder axis This in particular stuffed me around when I first got my rudder pedals. I didn't realise the twist stick was still bound to rudder and did not notice I was making fine rudder input on takeoff with the twist stick overriding the pedals. A few wrecked takeoffs and I had it figured out and removed the twist stick mapping.
thomasruffley Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 Thanks a lot for all your suggestions. Unfortunately I don't understand what I'm looking for in the settings. I am using the Russian plane and it just turns around while standing on the ground without me touching anything. I am getting on OK with the missions where the plane is already in the air. As you can guess I'm new to all this and I probably need a "Dummies" book. Tom
Bando Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Dummies book? Here's something better: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/16752-il-2bos-user-manual-released-first-edition-english/
Dakpilot Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 A good intro to ground handling here, also check out part 1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMwDXeys5yY All of Requiems vids are a great resource for leaning the basics, and loads of good tips for advanced users as well https://www.youtube.com/user/RequiemBoS/videos Cheers Dakpilot

Sometimes when you first start the throttle is set to 100% by the game you needed to move the throttle for the controller to be recognised.
thomasruffley Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 I'm Flying Thanks everyone, especially the links to YouTube. It's a fantastic learning curve and I've still got a way to go but at least I'm up in the air. Chocks away Tom 2
