AcesHigh Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 (edited) EDIT: Merged two similar newly started topics and altered the title. OK something to think about in light of the early access thread. The videos and screenshots we've seen they almost look like a full game ready to be played so when you think about it's only 30-35% complete and it already looks, sounds, and plays like that! WOW - Can't wait to see the other 65-70% !!!! Curious thought what makes up the other 65-70% of the game being worked on? We assume single player career, multiplayer, and the AI are still being worked on but are there "silos" of items that make of the unfinished percentage? Edited October 27, 2013 by FlatSpinMan
von_Tom Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 The alpha access is approaching and we've been told the full game is maybe 30-35% finished. To me, 100% finished means it's done but needs tweaks. I don't know what 30% finished means. It might mean all landscape is done but not Stalingrad itself, or optimisation is way behind, or only 2 aircraft are fully flyable subject to FM tweaks etc. It'd help if we could have some form of log so we know what works and what doesn't. If for example ammmo loadouts cannot be changed then fine, we can read about this rather than getting unreasonably frustrated when we try to change it but fail. It may be that the community can provide valuable feedback about those things that do work. Also, the community as a whole can see how things are going without the need for pre-order and so on. Hopefully a log would not take too much time to compile. Likewise a changelog would be much appreciated. Hood
FlatSpinMan Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Good point. But to answer your question, I'd guess: All of the He-111 Fw190 La5 IL2 cockpit (none was shown) Some of the Pe2 Also, we've only seen a couple of airfields, so perhaps the map isn't complete. The basics must be blocked in though, I'd think. The career mode must be an awful lot of work. Beyond that, I lack the knowledge to even speculate.
FlatSpinMan Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 This is kind of similar to another new thread so I'm going to attempt the merge...
JtD Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I'm expecting the game to crash while booting up and me to look for log files to determine the reason.
Uufflakke Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 IL2 cockpit (none was shown) Update #12 shows 2 WIP IL2 cockpits. http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/168-developer-diary/?p=10542

Sternjaeger Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 (edited) I am sure they are carefully planning the early access and will give us a thorough explanation of what they're expecting from us. So far they've demonstrated they know what they're doing and that they have a clear road map: my opinion is that the early access will concentrate on things like graphic glitches and compatibility mainly, but I guess the real challenge will be to skim though all the "noise" of uninformed posts and armchair experts and concentrate on the really important stuff. von_Tom Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Precisely. A log would prevent 20 "My wheels won't go up" threads or at least it would give the mods ammo to delete repetitive threads. Hood
AcesHigh Posted October 28, 2013 Author Posted October 28, 2013 I'm guessing by the time early access begins, along the lines of what Sternjaeger, was saying, they will have a roadmap of sorts - this works test this don't report these... this is not finished on and on. Either way though I suspect people are going to go nuts reporting issues that are not relevant to testing. bug report 1 - Hey I flew over Stalingrad and the whole city is missing! You don't say
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Reminds me when I released the BoB campaign for IL-2 FB. We used the Finland map to represent The Channel and explained this in the Readme, and still for MONTHS, even years afterwards I would still receive the occasional email asking why, when they flew in the campaign, they were flying over 'the wrong map. That was a great campaign! That the map was wrong didn't bother me much, the creativity behind it made up for the fact that it didn't quite fit. It was creativity like that campaign that made IL2 such a great game for so long. I seriously hope the devs will facilitate that same type of jury rigging of the game. I guess a more streamlined mission editor is well beyond both the early and full release of the sim, but Jason has said they have been thinking about it, and I hope it will materialize in due time. 1
J2_Trupobaw Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 The AI. There is long list of combat maneuvers devs want AI to use, Alpha game may have only some maneuvers implemented, and way AI chooses which maneuver to perform may be far from final. AI may be in "general" stage, waiting to be tweaked into variants for specific planes based on input.
Cybermat47 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 I hope that there are flak guns that float up and shoot you right in the face
HeavyCavalrySgt Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) Perfection! (Had to edit the post; I had a typo ;-) ) Edited October 29, 2013 by HeavyCavalrySgt
