Hey everybody!

Finally took the plunge and bought BoS on Steam... CLOD is awesome, but lacks a 190, and WT's 190 was starting to be... easy.

Now, I just took an hour and went into a few quick battles against the AI to set up my stuff. One thing that bugs me is setting up views.

I'm using TrackIr, so I don't think I should care much about them snap views (maybe set one up to be like the lean to gunsight in CLOD, but that doesn't feel necessary in the 190 for now).

On the other hand, I couldn't find a satisfactory way to handle zoom.

What I would like the most, is to have one joystick button act as a toggle (max zoom/back to default zoom). Is that possible?

For now, the only way I have found is to have one button to zoom in (at max speed), and one to reset zoom, but that's taking to buttons on my stick, where one could just as well do the trick.

If not possible, I can live with that (after all my CLOD profile uses no less than 4 stick buttons to mess with views), but I'd really like to use the opportunity to bring the flaps on the stick.

Thanks!

Page 40 of manual:

Zoom level adjustment:
- To zoom in your cockpit view with your keyboard, press the numpad + key (Pilot head: zoom in). To zoom out your view, press the numpad – key (Pilot head: zoom out). You can also use your mouse’s scroll wheel to zoom in and out (Pilot head: zoom). To return to the default, un-zoomed view, press the numpad * key (Pilot head: reset zoom).

Lots of info in there.

A similar snap view are already mapped, press Numpad ,Del + Numpad 8.

Test the keys Numpad ,Del  and ,Del+Numpad # to see others snap views.

Default keys for ZOOM is / and *  and you can assign more two keys or joy' buttons for this (or any other) command. The ZOOM speed is configurable in camera.

Thanks guys, even though I already knew this (Unless I misunderstood what Sokol was saying). I did have a read on the manual yesterday.

I'll try to make it a bit more understandable:

- I know how to zoom in and out.

- For know, I've set up the camera setting "FOV speed" to 100%, I've got one stick button assigned to "zoom in" and another to "reset zoom". It does the trick, one press of the first button and I get to max zoom, one on the second and I'm back to my default FOV.

- What I would prefer to have is basically the same thing, but using only one button. So, one press to get to max zoom, and one press of the same button to go back to default zoom.

I think I had that down back in ROF, but I haven't played it in ages, so I can't be sure. I'm sure I never got it to work that way in CLOD.

Interesting question.

I'm also using TrackIR and get some kind of zoom when I lean towards the cockpit (not as pronounced as in CLOD and DCSW) but are you referring to 'zoom' as in bringing the horizon closer?

I don't see a way to do that in BOS.

No option in game GUI, get the free version o Xpadder (or use your HOTAS soft'), set a button to press a sequence, first press ZOOM+, second press, ZOOM -, then end the sequence and start again.

You can use the already mapped "lean to gunsight" (is not this name in GUI, is one these enigmatic names commonly used  = Keypad del+Keypad 8) that is a momentary command (hold).

In Xpadder (or HOTAS soft") set a button for toggle, so the first press toggle this "lean to gunsight" view ON, the second set OFF, turning back to previous FOV.

Huh, nice trick, Sokol, thanks! I might try that.

Maybe someone can help here?

Two things...

When in cockpit view:

1. The illuminated cross-hare is not centred in the gunsight (I am using TrackIR and have to correct this by skewing my head slightly).

2. I feel 'too close' to the front of the cockpit even when zoomed out fully.

Hi Dakpilot,

Thanks for the link - I'm subscribed and steadily working my way through his video library - all are really excellent resources.

I am using his TrackIR preset but I'll try tweaking my settings a bit more as per his advice.

Okay guys haven't played for a bit, getting my controls configured again.

So I figured out how to get a gunsight zoom view mapped to a key from the manual, but I have to hold the button down for it to stay there. When I release the button then it will return to my normal view. Is there a way I can just press my button to zoom in, then press it again to zoom back out? Is it one of the different view modes I have to press with the F9 key? I tried last night couldn't get it. Thanks for the help!
