TheBlackPenguin Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Anyone else play Silent Hunter III and IV? Would it be possible to add gunners as entities sometime? Something similar, but adapted realistically for BOS? Silent Hunter III Silent Hunter IV: Obviously it could adapted, even adding without a bomber and having a crew selection for gunners only will add that extra immersion. Anything else which could be added later? 1
I/JG27_Zimmi Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 This would be also interesting for campaigns in general. Imagine being a sqd leader administrating your pilots, seing their progress and success.
GOAT-ACEOFACES Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 It's been a few years.. But there was something like that in a dedicated B17 game called 'B 17 flying fortress the mighty 8th'. Kind of cool for a dedicated bomber game, where you have a 'crew', espically for offline play. But in todays online focus of gaming, the $ may well be spent elsewhere? 1
=BKHZ=Furbs Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Both B17 and silent hunter IV had very good immersion, loved renaming my crew in B17 and SH IV's crew system was much better than SH V.
II./JG27_Rich Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Silent Hunter III is great. I'm still playing with it once and a while.
HeavyCavalrySgt Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I would like that - recommend crews for awards and promotions, see them develop, be worried over noobs flying your hard-to-replace aircraft....
HeavyCavalrySgt Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I would really like to have different attributes - which I might not necessarily be able to just see as a score or rating but can only infer from observed performance or reading evaluations - like spotting, leadership, situational awareness, navigation, piloting, aggressiveness, air-to-air and air-to-ground gunnery, bombing accuracy, tactics, efficiency, etc.... It would be nice to know that a particular section leader is a good guy to rely on to send Someone with poor navigatout on close air support missions, another might be ap olitical appointee with more rank than ability. One pilot might be aggressive and tactically smart, but lacks discipline and loses situational awareness when he is going after a target. A good section leader with him helps keep him alive... Someone with poor navigation skills and/or poor SA may wind up bombing the wrong target, perhaps even a friendly unit. Combined with limited aircraft and repair times, limited supplies - it could make the campaign game more interesting. I remember B17 well I can't get that game to run well, and I miss it. It might be time for the next version! I really enjoyed the intro as well. Very good for immersion.
1CGS LukeFF Posted October 28, 2013 1CGS Posted October 28, 2013 I really do hope the gunners in BOS have their own name, rank, skill level etc., in contrast to the anonymous backseat guys in ROF.
Cybermat47 Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 If you were disappointed with Silent Hunter 5, try out sober's mega mod on Subsim.com. It really improves the game by 110%. And I'm not just saying that because a mod I made is part of sober's mega mod
SPRCrash_Nemesis Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Sobers MegaMod really does make Silent Hunter V better... That being said, It would be really amazing if we could get crew manifests and/or the ability to hire crew and level them up. Just makes the immersion better. Makes the player feel like they are part of a squadron, and not this one man army with no name Ai's.
