Huge Skin Pack - Fly In Style!

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

One thing missing in multiplayer is the lack of custom skins, the only way people can see your skin and for you to see theirs, is if they're downloaded on both hard drives.

There are many great, cool, amazing, beautiful, sick, historical skins created by talented individuals that will make you feel like a True Champion flying over the frozen tundra of Stalingrad. But right now they're mostly just sitting there rusting away, lets change that. After 3 hours ( and 650 captcha's later) of going through the forums/websites downloading every skin I can find (including I-16/MC202 skins)...

700+ Skins, 1 Package.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/wsiqvnkj66v5a5w/skins.zip?dl=0

If you have never installed a skin before...

1. Extract the zip file and you'll see the new folder, 'skins'

2. Open your folders and browse to..
Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Program Files (x86) > 1C Game Studios > Data > graphics

3. Drag your new skins folder into the graphics folder

4. Click 'Copy & Replace'. Why? Because you're not replacing anything but empty folders as you have no custom skins yet.

5. Tell your friends!

Does this make the loading skins for planes longer like in RoF? I'll be installing it no matter what, I was just wondering

That is dedication. You need an award.

Tested it out tonight and they load as fast as the normal skins.

can you get these up on the skins.de site?  That is a super easy way to keep the latest.  Though I'm sure this pack might\t conflict with some on the skins site.  Im hoping the Skins guys start a system like Armaholic, where the skin creators submit to skins de for inclusion in the updater.

Great work, but please post in the Skins section.

Thanks,

Jason

yeah thats not a skins issue its a game issue.  Which they REALLY need to fix.  That issue has been around since RoF and its really annoying.  and I would argue a large reason that custom skins aren't used as much.  That and to get a simple tail number change it must be an entirely new skin,  rather than have just another selection for tail numbers or other decals.  ALA Clod and WT.

What I meant by loading was when the pause in between clicking the plane, and the game responding to that. In RoF, it would take a few seconds for the game to basically unfreeze after I clicked a plane with a large amount of skins.

I've already tried it though  :P

There's a lot of them already there, but all the ones currently on that site are in this pack. I do hope the skinners move to that site because going through all the captchas, limited downloads, and ads popping up was brutal!

Silky,

Great work, but please post in the Skins section.

Sorry lol, I was thinking about that but figured that was for the single skin creations/skin requests vs just a skin pack, and no one would see it, especially new players.

UPDATE: Link Slow/Unreachable

*Forgot my old M4T account and had to create a new one, will update and upload when their admin approves.

Are the historical skins separated out in the pack or easily identifiable?

Same here . :(

Such a shame after he's done all the hard work to compile such a great resource and none of us can get at it.

Frustrating too cos I'm damn itching to get at it - willing it to work (just one more time).

Might send OP a bill to replace my left mouse button - worn out after hitting the 'Refresh' button so many times (like the desperate, pathetic skin whore I have become since finding this post)

Hahahahahah - feel such a Richard Cranium for admitting that now.

Sorry for the delay guys, I'm contacting the admins at M4T and seeing if it can get approved. In the meantime, when I wake up, I will make sure it's available today on the 31st.

I was shot down in Wings of Liberty by flak.

Command labeled this tragic event due to the lack of a skin pack

and has put in a request to halt all raids over enemy strongholds

with flak guns until the skin pack has been delivered to the frontline.

For those that have not been able to download the skin pack, I re-compressed with 7zip to get the size down to 710MB (original ZIP file was 2.8GB!) and posted on the TWB server.   This will extract to around 4GB so make sure you have enough room.

Link:  http://www.thewetbandits.org/files/il2BOSskins.7z

Copy/move the aircraft folders from the compressed file into the  C:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\graphics\skins folder or equivalent for your local installation.

Were just about to offer to start up a fast ftp-server, but as not so many know how to handle them these days, thanks Pand!

Will you include upcoming and MP skins too in the future??

And is MC202 a valid folder? Isn't it MC202s8

They really can't fix that with RoF, because in RoF each plane has to load the preview thumb so you can see what skin it is when you hover over it. The "fix" for RoF is to remove all previews so you don't know what it looks like until you are the individual aircraft's hangar selecting a skin - which only would apply to your plane and not the rest of the flight. Or buy a SSD and put RoF on that, takes like five seconds longer to select planes with a long list of skins over those that only have a few.

Silky,

It never ceases to amaze me when people spend a lot of their own time to produce something like this to share with the community, so a huge thanks from me.

Cheers

Update: The pack is now up on mission4today!

Since I cannot edit this thread, nor close it...  I created a new thread with an updated link that directs to mission4today.com so people don't have to rumamge through 4 pages of "link is down."

http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/18127-silkys-skin-pack-v1/

If Bear or Jason can close this thread, so people can access the new one without trouble, that would be awesome!
