Rjel Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I've been plagued by this for well more than a year. It seems to be an issue for a lot of folks with many different types of systems from the web searches I've done. For my system it didn't seem to be restricted to any one program or type of program although I'd see it most often in games, particularly in BoS. Not surprising as that's the sim I play most often. I haven't seen any mention of it here so I never thought it was specific to this sim. I've changed out video cards twice through upgrades but still the problem persisted. I'd tried all the drivers Nvidia releases, usually doing a clean install each time but the problem remained. I've tried every solution offered online but none helped. I'd had power supplies die before but usually they were quick deaths for them. Either the system would balk when starting or there'd be that hot electrical smell telling me it was time to shut it down quick. This time I didn't have either but as a desperate last resort, I decided maybe it was time to replace my aging power pack. The one in my machine was from several upgrades ago, going back to 2008. I'm not any expert when it come to power supplies but I'd imagine over time their ability to power a system degrades like anything does. Plus I was pushing a lot of hardware with it including three HDs. I basically replaced it with the same type of 750w power pack, I wanted bigger back it was all I could find locally. I did unplug one HD and will likely replace one of the others with one larger HD to equal the two. Next upgrade I'll get the biggest power supply I can reasonably afford. To make a long story short, I've been running this new power pack for a week. I've run BoS as long as 18 hours at a stretch without a single driver crash. I'm cautiously optimisic I've found my solution. If anyone is having game crashes related to driver issues, take a look at this. I could be wrong but so far it's been working for me.
Soarfeat Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Hey Rjel, Lots of pc problems arise from inadequate and poor power supplies, I believe it to be the proverbial heart of the build. I have learned to go with good companies and never go less than a gold rated psu. Johnnyguru has great psu reviews and do very intensive test on the different brands http://www.jonnyguru.com/ I hope this takes care of your problem ( very possibly will !! ) cheers-sf-
