Visibility distance

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

i think we realy need greater Visibility distance then in ROF. Something like in ClOD. Is this even passible with RoF/BoS Engine?

Its WWII and the Air battles will take place in higher Altitude. If not in BOS Theater, then later on.

Sorry 4 my bad English.

The view Visibility in ROF is way better than CLOD imho

Yes. But I guess it is dependant on the settings.

At High and above there is no discussion.

With full details I can see contacts at 5 - 6 km in RoF. I think it's reasonable representation of visual distance at which planes of WWI era size could be seen in real world.

I don't play CoD so can anyone say what the difference in view distance is, between that and RoF. I thought RoF's was fine, but then again, planes in WW1 were slower and in RoF especially, fly lower.

There might be a difference between spotting and identifying.

Movement can be spotted from excessive distance, as many real pilots will tell you. Identification may require a third less or even half than distance ( depending on models, as some wing/tail sections are unmistakeable ).

spotting is heavily dependent on several factors:

1) weather conditions: if the visibility is 5 miles you won't spot much, if it's 20 and above (unlimited), then you have better chances.

2) aircraft size/finish: a big multi-engine aircraft is considerably bigger than a 109, and the finish might reflect light better. Normally it's the glare of a gloss finish, propeller arc or canopies that draws your attention.

3) your position respective to the sun: sun in your face=you won't see a thing, sun in your back=you'll see the lot (and might not be seen)

4) your eyesight! The difficult thing about spotting is training your eyes to "scan" (or better, focus) at different distances. It's an exercise that is not easy at first and only the people who are "eagle eyed" (above 20/20) obtain good results.

The focussing exercise is particularly necessary in hazy or "washed out" conditions, where a small moving item can easily escape your attention amid the clouds/haze/

Identification is another story altogether: sometimes not even 300 yards could be enough! The best rule to apply is "think before you squeeze.."

An interesting note about visual contact with other flying objects: remember that if a flying object/aircraft/bird remains in the same position on your windscreen/canopy and gets bigger, you are on a collision course, even if you're facing different directions. It seems silly, but it isn't.

In virtual WWII most of "battles" take place at... ~100 feets. :)

Is that a personal option Sokol ?

CloD, great fights over 4000m, Il-2 i'd say average goes on 6000 feet, that's 2km. RoF, 1000m is not uncommon.

WT, yeah, 100 feet for most plebs, but blame the deficient spotting design.

normally a dogfight happens where the more experienced pilot has an edge.. a lot of users fight without looking at the bigger picture, they just see an opportunity for a dogfight and charge blindly, throttle to the firewall and guns blazing.

You should see the shambles in War Thunder lol

Guys, i mean in ClOD i could easely see England and the Clifs of Dover from France, when i was flying at 6000 m. In RoF the Horizen is to Bright! Even with HDR off.

Though i dont play Clod any more i do think to Visibility distance in Clod is untoucht by other Sims.
