wtornado Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Next time the LA-5 and the FW-190 goes on special at 50% off I will pick them up. Is the FW-190 really worth buying though will of of the discussions I have read about it? AND THERE IS A LOT OF STUFF WRITTEN ON THE FW-190!
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) Both are worth it. EDIT: even at full price. Edited August 20, 2015 by VR_Stick 1
wtornado Posted August 20, 2015 Author Posted August 20, 2015 I have always liked the LA-5 and LA-5FN in the old series so I will get that plane no questions asked based on what is written in here.
Siipiorava Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) The Fw-190 is a fun plane to fly, if you can see over the "bar". It has quite good flight model. If you buy both planes you will also get the ability to skip unlocks if you wish. Edited August 20, 2015 by Siipiorava
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Both are worth it. EDIT: even at full price. This. I bought premium and don't regret it..
-TBC-AeroAce Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Fw 190 is a beast of an aircraft if used correctly. There should be no hold backs in getting it but remember it needs to be used in a certain way
Finkeren Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Both are well worth buying. They are excellent models. In terms of gameplay, the Fw 190 gives by far the most value for money. It's unique and quite a difference from the Bf 109, while the La-5 is pretty much a fancier LaGG with heavier default armament. The Fw 190 is also IMHO the best ground attack aircraft in BoS apart from the IL-2.
SR-F_Winger Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) Even thou IMHO the 190 doenst performa as well as it should, especially relative to other planes, its still my favorite and well worth the money. The sim is young and the one or other thing might change for the better in the future. So i can really only recommend buying it. Just a little warning: In my opinion the 190 is the hardest plane to fly effective in and master the ride on the redline in it. At first you will be cursing it. But if you keep flying it youll be loving it. As for the LA5 i cant say very much. But if you want to be able to catch a 109 at treetop and still be very maneuverable and an awesome energyretainer (just like the YAK) then i believe its also well worth the money. I have been given a hard time, and ultimately been shot down, by both planes more than once. EDIT: I have to correct that. More than once is an understatement. More like thousands of times:P Edited August 20, 2015 by JG4_Winger 2
Finkeren Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Another reason to buy both: The Fw 190 vs. La-5 is IMO the most fun and best match-up of fighters in BoS. Most of the really intense and memorable fights I've had so far has been between those two aircraft.
Dr_Molenbeek Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 It completely depend of the importance you give to the FM. Sadly if i start to say in which area the plane underperforms/overperforms, i will be seen as a "anti-BoS" hater... 3
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) -snip- i will be seen as a "anti-BoS" hater... [Edited] Edited August 20, 2015 by Bearcat 1
NachtJaeger110 Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 I can fully recommend the 190. I have the most sucess with it in MP, maybe simply because it is the only german fighter in which you can just open the canopy and take a much better look at your surroundings. Visibility in the 190 in my opinion makes up vor "das Barn" or the still to be investigated supercharger gear change... Ist just a great bird
JG4_dingsda Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Sadly if i start to say in which area the plane underperforms/overperforms, i will be seen as a "anti-BoS" hater... Since you shared your concerns with the devs, I'd rather consider that contributing than hating. On FW190: I really like the plane, even though I for sure belong into the clueless category of pilots here.
Dr_Molenbeek Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) The plane is underperforming above 1200m in winter conditions, but starts to really underperform (massively, i mean) above ~2600m. The plane is rolling as if it had two invisible 50kg bombs under each wing, the roll start is ridiculous and any plane can catch even the most basic rolling maneuver (as diving turn) because of this. BoS is the only sim where the 190 roll rate is as weird, and we have no real answer till today. Below 1200m, the plane is a bit underperforming at combat power 1.32 ata/2400 RPM and a bit overperforming at full power 1.42 ata/2700 RPM. Still, it's a monster, it is fast, it is the best in high speed climb domain (as long as you stay below 1200m), the best in diving, the best in high speed maneuvering, the most robust fighter in BoS,... Yes, i love it, even in his actual state ! Edited August 20, 2015 by Ze_Hairy 3
DD_Arthur Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 So i can really only recommend buying it. Just a little warning: In my opinion the 190 is the hardest plane to fly effective in and master the ride on the redline in it. At first you will be cursing it. wtornado Posted August 20, 2015 Author Posted August 20, 2015 Thank-you for the info guys. I will pick it up on Steam when it goes on special again at 50% off. You can credit Veteran for his I/JG 51 missions that i need the FW-190 to play. A Stuka mission set would be nice to fly too Veteran if you are reading this. Hint ...hint...

SCG_Space_Ghost Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Well it is done both birds were on special this morning so I am now the proud owner of both of them. Well done. If you can fly the 190 like a 190 (and not a 109...) you will find that it is very rewarding.

SAG Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 i just bought in on sale beautiful plane, love the canopy and cockpit. even though i dont usually frly german. this is an awesome machine, also, the cannnnnooooonnnss
wtornado Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 (edited) I guess in the older versions of the FW-190 A-3 and 4's you probably would not want to stick around in a dogfight you would probably boom and zoom and clear the sector of fighting and regain altitude and use your weight to dive in on them again. One pass would of been plenty with the firepower it has. I think that those who have flown the old IL-2 games and mods noted the vast difference between the A-3 and 4 and 5 with the same power plant being the BMW 801 D-2 at 1677 hp and the normal take off weight of 8378 lbs without boost. The FW-190 A-4 U-7 with its high altitude compressor would of definitely helped up high. The FW-190 A-8 a normal weight of 9,735 lbs(varies it could be lower) at 1,953 hp with what we called in the old IL-2 ''WEP'' ingame would be a game changer. It was a emergency boost C-3 injection system and even better the GM1 nitrous oxide system that could be engaged 10 mins at a time for 20 minutes would a made a big difference in combat. Boost for climb to get away must a made a big difference IMO.A luxury the older versions did not have. Top speed at level flight for the A series FW 190's is pretty well all the same but it is only useful chasing AI drones ingame(boring). With close to 2000 hp FW-190 chasing you for 20 mins would have probably seemed like a very very long time he he. Just thoughts on how furballs would of been like and the maximum amount of raw horse power you would have at your disposal to climb or dive your way out of the fight to either live to see another day of get shot down. II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Tornado, I am giving away Fw's today but from the website. If they can be used on your Steam version (which I think they can) I will reserve the first one for you.
71st_AH_Hooves Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I have enjoyed a renewed enjoyment in the 190. Once I was taught how to fly it more appropriately by TheElf. I was usually the guy performing the "floppawolf". At any rate. YEAH it's worth it.

Thank-you very much Herrmurf but I bought both planes on special this morning I like the FW-190 it snap-rolls like in the old IL-2 versions of the game and it keeps you on your toes. I just have to find the right amount of flaps adjustment to keep her steady in a turn like in the old IL-2.

This helped me avoid said "floppawulf" dramatically
Y-29.Silky Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I guess in the older versions of the FW-190 A-3 and 4's you probably would not want to stick around in a dogfight you would probably boom and zoom and clear the sector of fighting and regain altitude and use your weight to dive in on them again. One pass would of been plenty with the firepower it has. I've been actually getting down and dirty with mine and dogfighting in the vertical with pretty good success! As Hooves mentioned, I had to lower my stabilizer which helps a lot.
von_Tom Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Where does 7% trim Indicate on the trim dial? Just below 1 or...? I tend to make my trim neutral or as close as possible. von Tom
Wulf Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Also try about 7% trim when getting into a fight. This helped me avoid said "floppawulf" dramatically Why would you do that? At 7% the aircraft is essentially trimmed for low speed climb. In level flight, the nose on your aircraft would be pulling up all the time. At combat speeds it would be most disconcerting. Is this an attempt to reduce turn time or something?
Dakpilot Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Consider turns as horizontal climb setting the stabilator for that will help Cheers Dakpilot
Y29.Layin_Scunion Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 I've probably flown the La-5 more than any Russian aircraft so far. It's a pain to manage but very enjoyable. I've had congenial fights against 190s while flying a LaGG-5. We both continued to keep steady rolls and easy zoom climbs, exchanging energy in good fights.....very fun. I fly more Jabo missions than anything in a 190....keeping it traditional I guess. Both are fun aircraft. Without a doubt. Do not regret buying either of them.
wtornado Posted August 30, 2015 Author Posted August 30, 2015 I really like the flight model of the FW-190 it is hard to fly. Devs did a nice job on it.
