II/JG17KaC_Wolfe Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 I love this game but given all the effort to make it a realistic sim, why have the ability to suddenly magnify your target. I realise for expert flyers they may want to have this feature to be able to identify non icon targets, but is there a way it could be restricted to that ? Seems odd it such a realistic sim for pilots to be able to magnify their targets. It's also not needed. just an opinion I realise others might wish to have it. 1
SteelValkyrie Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 I think the advantages of being able to zoom in makes up for the limitations of FOV, screen size and resolution. Maybe when Oculus Rift is more of an established thing we won't need it, but for now I think it's an acceptable solution. 1
=362nd_FS=RoflSeal Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) Because the clarity offered by technology currently (resolutions and field of view) is too low. Edited August 20, 2015 by RoflSeal 1
Brano Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 It's a trade off.Zoomed view is in fact what you would see in real minus peripheral view which can't be simulated on 2d screen of your monitor. 1
Dakpilot Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 ^^ +1 think of zoomed view as standard and wide view as an aid for lack of peripheral vision, the only way to do away with zoom/wide would be if every one had a very high quality 3 screen setup and a monster computer or maybe VR headset in 10+ years Cheers Dakpilot
Finkeren Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) Indeed. We have the disadvantage as sim pilots that the zoom is pretty much how we change between focus and peripheral perception. Real eyes can do both at the same time. There is nothing in the current view system that's much outside what a real life Mk. 1 eyeball can do. Edited August 20, 2015 by Finkeren
SharpeXB Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 The zoom is not only used to make up for the small size of your screen but also the lack of resolution. A really good example of why a zoom feature is needed in sims you can see in a truck driving sim. Most of us aren't fighter pilots but all of us can relate to driving cars. In the real world, you can read a road sign. In the truck sim (which doesn't actually have a zoom) you can't. And even a 4K screen isn't up to your real world acuity either. So sit in your BoS cockpit and imagine if you could read a road sign a hundred feet away by the side of the runway, without using the zoom. Actually on a 1080p screen you need the zoom to even see your own gauges which are obviously clear to the pilot just like the ones in your car. 1
