Joker_23 Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/madottergames/red-baron Red Baron is back! The best dogfighting game of all time returns from Damon Slye, the original creator of the Red Baron franchise. Briefly, Red Baron is: Dogfighting: Aerial combat at its best. Take to the skies in fighter aircraft like the Sopwith Camel and Fokker Triplane. Persistent Multiplayer Game World: Jump in anytime for a challenging mission with or against your friends. There will be both historical and MOBA-style maps. Single Player: Enlist for the full tour in campaign play with more than 30 missions played back to back from 1915 to 1918. Single player will be offline and DRM-free. Easy to Learn: Red Baron will have a simple learning curve, allowing you to jump in and play within minutes and feel the rush of aerial combat. Constant Progression: Advance your pilot to gain new and better aircraft, customize with new paint and decals, and earn upgrades. No Subscriptions No Pay to Win Looks very interesting! Was surprised there wasn't a thread already for this!
DD_bongodriver Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 We don't use the expression 'arcade' nowadays, it upsets some people, simply stating it doesn't cater to the elitist hardcore is more politically correct.
=BKHZ=Furbs Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 When i saw the post i was quite excited about a Redbaron remake, then i saw the video, not so excited now. Will keep a eye on it, but not putting any money in it.
Alesia Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Looks interesting. It is very alpha footage so I wouldn't really go around calling it "Arcady" just yet as the Flight models or game modes are probably not developed, would consider it more proof of concept or proof that the game is actually in the works than any actual gameplay. Heck, camera or control methods probably are not even close to finalized. Will keep my eye on it and may chip in, no reason not too, after all we all need more flight games.
FuriousMeow Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Disregarding the footage, the entire write-up details the makings of an arcade game. 2
Trooper117 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I like the look of it actually... As I spend a lot of my time away abroad, if it's something I can play on my laptop and just have fun with then I may just purchase it
MarcoRossolini Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 They've shown a tech tree and things like that... seems like a War Thunder type venture...
Cybermat47 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Looks like they're making an arcade game, but they just can't admit it.
Trooper117 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Have you bothered to read and fully understand the article and the video.. it clearly states the road they are going down... one being it is not 'pay to play'
Feathered_IV Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Hmm. Doesn't seem to have the soul of RB at all. Not even a little bit.
Matt Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 The original Red Baron was quite arcade aswell imho. As were most "flightsims" back then. A bit off-topic, not that i'm interested in supporting this project (yet), but i've been playing Flying Corps quite a bit in the past two years, even though RoF is undoubtably the much better flightsim. There's something all these great fancy flightsims with accurate flightmodels and amazing graphics and sounds are missing, atleast in singleplayer. For instance, i still can't get myself flying the RoF career mode, neither the 777, nor the PatWilson variant for more than a few days, no matter how realistic it might be, because it's just boring for me. In that case, i prefer a not so realistic campaign or career mode and am definately willing to sacrifice a bit of the flightsim part for that. So i wish them good luck with the Kickstarter and if it succeeds, i might actually buy it in the future and test it out.
BMA_West Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 You got to be kidding, Joker. Devs don't even wheel joysticks and that for a fight-sim, could that actually be mouse-aim. Hangars, micro-transactions ... fishy. Where ells does one hear that. Wasn't RB3d, not the one I used to fly. DM just blast and fire-ball, other planes and the even the castles? Arcadish for sure.
HeavyCavalrySgt Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I am disappointed. It looks like a miss.
JG4_Sputnik Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 And it looks aweful: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/madottergames/red-baron
JG4_Sputnik Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Some interesting statements on Polygon about the devs approach regarding realism and such: http://www.polygon.com/2013/10/25/5027564/two-decades-after-he-vanished-red-barons-creator-is-back

BeastyBaiter Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Hey look, another flying game with mouse aim and tech trees.
SvAF/F19_Klunk Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Hey look, another flying game with mouse aim and tech trees. ...lol well honestly, all flying games are welcome, even this title.... because some of the players might end up at our place in the end. The more titles there are to entice the interest of aviation the merrier! 1
J4SCrisZeri Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 I find war thunder a silly toy, worth a cell phone and casual gamers. this one looks even worse. IMHO. 1
Cybermat47 Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 I find war thunder a silly toy, worth a cell phone and casual gamers. this one looks even worse. IMHO. What's wrong with casual gamers? Most of my friends are casual gamers.
falstaff Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Forget Kickstarter...more like KickIntoTouch.... Aargh, my eyes...what a travesty of one of the early greats.....even in recent years how many WW1 sims have let you cagily circle a Zeppelin with authentic dread.... I'm all for being being drawn-in to the genre, but that isn't genre apart from 'my first crayon set'....
SPRCrash_Nemesis Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Its cool that he has the passion to go out, sell his plane to make this game. It is an indie game and I salute him for trying, but I think someone needs to let him play Rise of Flight and explain to him the difference between arcade and simulation. 1
Stray Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I couldn't agree more with SPRCrash_Nemesis and I feel a little sorry for the team of of obviously nice people behind Red Baron. Their title is not a competition to RoF or 1946, but it may actually be competition to WoWp and Warthunder. Good luck guys - hopefully you get to kill "pay to win" trend in gaming.
icED Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I reckon it looks good for alpha, of course the end game will be better then whats shown on the ks page, atleast he is listening to comments, which can only improve the game. One thing i liked about red baron games was the campaign/pilot career added real depth to the gameplay, wasn't just a flight sim with nice gfx and plane models..which is all you seem to get nowadays.

Rise of Flight has a career mode, and so will Battle of Stalingrad.
DocSnyder Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 (edited) But if you think about it ... the early Sierra simulations (Red Baron, and the Aces games) weren't heavy simulations like MS Flightsim or Airbus A320 was at this time either. And they were the greatest flight games ever. I wonder how these games would look like made with todays possibilites. I don't like this Red Baron though. That's not Red Baron... . :/ But the soundtrack is catchy. ;D Edit: They need 250.000 bucks till the end of november. By now they have 25.000. Forget it. Edited October 27, 2013 by DocSnyder
icED Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Rise of Flight has a career mode, and so will Battle of Stalingrad. Yeah, but how good will BOS career mode be thats the question.
Cybermat47 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Yeah, but how good will BOS career mode be thats the question. Try out the RoF career mode to get an idea.
SPRCrash_Nemesis Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Rise of Flight's career mode is really cool. I prefer it over the campaign. Reminds me of Microsofts Combat Flight Sim 3's career mode. Very cool. Really hop BOS keeps this element. To be honest, its the only reason I keep playing Rise of Flight.

The missions are much more diverse, and it has INFANTRY ATTACKS. Holy hell, that is awesome.
BMA_West Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Linus gets supported. Oxculus Rift to. The while they do not want Trackir, can you believe it Some go even farther, they are not in "flight sim nuts", go figure ...
siipperi Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Seems to ride on the old name. But more people interested in any kind of avionics is big bonus to our community, hoping new coming of flight simming! 1
Bearcat Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 It looks arcade and WWI is boring enough in RoF (at least to me) .. as good as it is ...
BMA_West Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 KS got blown off 30' ago 'cause at this rate 250.000 USD goal seemed totally out of reach ... Thou all getting in for a game copy (15,00 USD lowest & limited tier containing digital game) before end of the November will be listed for the Alpha access ...
