216th_Jordan Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 (edited) Those graphs are great but Its not testiing the time difference between minimum combat power (70%) Versus maximum Combat Power (85%) They both will expire around 20-23min mark That is plain wrong. Please test it yourself. On your He-111 RPM might have a bigger factor than Ata 1.1 or 1.3 so you get that result. Edited December 22, 2017 by 216th_Jordan
6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 The main reason I fly with Technochat is the Engine Damage Model. Oil Pressure Gauge is Non Informative. Often you have Damage quite clearly due to Lack of Oil Pressure, but it sits quietly and stable until the Engine Stops. Engine Overheat in a Watercooled Aircraft normally opens a Blow Off Valve to reduce Pressure, causing Trails of Vapour. Aircooled Engines running hot start pinging running rough and just sound differently. And none of the ingame Engines are at their Structural Limits. The Engines are Limited by Low Octane Fuel and Lubrication Trouble. So all ovefstress Damage should result from Bearing Failures and Damage to Valves, Spark Plugs, Manifolds Seals and whatever else the Air Fuel Mix goes through. Slow Flight at Full Power should cause Damage more quickly than fast Flight for Example.
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Yep there is large room for improving engine damage and it's visual representation.
Guest deleted@134347 Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 I wouldn't mind getting rid of the technochat but some planes don't have any visual indicators for stabilizers and/or flaps extension. Yes, I guess I can count how many times the wheel has been turned to determine the necessary number of revolutions per percentage ... but how's that realistic either. MC202 has all indicators in the cockpit and this plane I fly with hud off completely. E7 comes second as I can see numbers for stabilizers by the pilot's leg and flaps are visible out of the window. But the VVS planes? Nothing in them but wheels...
-=PHX=-SuperEtendard Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 I think we should get a "light" version of the technochat, without engine regime and overheat messages, for example, but mantaining the input parameters like the percentages of flaps, radiators, etc. 1

FuriousMeow Posted December 22, 2017 Posted December 22, 2017 Amateurs. No issue not using technochat and not blowing my engine, or knowing what damage I have acquired, or what my trim is at.
Talisman Posted December 23, 2017 Posted December 23, 2017 (edited) I would very much like to fly MP expert servers with no technochat. Thumbs up for this from me. I like to fly with a PC screen as clear as possible. I like to learn the position of my aircraft cockpit controls by visual reference points (and counting movement like number of rotations for example) and keep a constant check on engine management gauges, etc. I also mark setting positions on my own hardware if need be. Much more realism and immersion without technochat. I use the technochat initially to learn a new aircraft and get familiar with it at first, then once I am fully familiar it is great to turn it all off and do the PC pilot fly thing ) I see technochat as a crutch that I like to do away with as soon as possible after learning a new aircraft. Tomsk Posted December 26, 2017 Posted December 26, 2017 (edited) But before you do that you have to write down all planes max performance specs or remember them as the gme only cares about the HUD mode its in (contin/climb/combat and so on) it does not care about the actual ATA or rpm for the engine timers Eg, 109 F2 is Rated to fly at only 1.25ata for 20 mins But using the hud u can see that 1.2999ata is still combat power and can also be run for the full 20 mins no different. I find it fascinating how well this myth persists, and that it keeps coming up. Flying without the HUD, I personally have found that I rest my engine more, and I don't push the engine unless really in dire straits. I think the only time I wrecked my engine was not watching a temperature gauge closely.sd This has been my experience also. Since moving to VR I've flown without HUD (due to the frame rate issues), and I've become much more conservative with my use of emergency power. It now is for emergencies and typically I'll only use it for a quick 30 second boost to gain acceleration, even on the 190 which has a pretty long emergency power use. Personally I think in Expert mode technochat should not include things such as overheat warnings, notifications of engine damage and such like, those things are not realistic and make engine management a lot easier than it should be. Repeating things like the current flaps position is okay - although when I turned it off I actually had more fun, had to get to learn the quirks of the plane more. I'd also strongly support making it a server side option how much technochat is permitted. Edited December 26, 2017 by Tomsk 4
