nice skins Pathercules! mainly first two. remove your personal insignia and let us to use it ;)

Here you go - I've put up a package with my personal skins (in case you run into me in MP), plus one set of generic TG-55 skins without my personal symbol (in case you want to fly as one of my fictional TG-55 squadron - anyone is welcome to do so), plus one set with no TG-55 markings at all.  Obviously, you're free to keep the ones you want and delete any that you don't.

They are JSGME-ready:  http://www.mediafire.com/download/cnqmqtfo8ji12k4/Panther%27s_Macchi_202_skins_for_BoS_for_JSGME.zip

The only thing better than playing this game is the community who keeps on giving.  Thank You guys. Folgores Rock!  Best camouflage jobs in WW2 IMO.  The equivalent of a Giorgio Armani suit lol

So many nice camos, so little time !

My preference goes to the third : Nocciola Chiaro spots over a Verde Oliva Scuro base.

Congratulations for these beautifull skins !

Just a basic question : where is the directory to place them in ? I didn't noticed any Mc202 directory in the data\graphics\skins directory of my game ?

Copy !

Thanks for the tip.

For the former planes, the directory was automaticly created, wasn't it ?

Hi Baron....I can just say that you did a great skin! I love it...and it's a very famous skin...that aircraft MM7848 flown by Sergente Maggiore Faliero Gelli of the 378 Squadrilia, 155 Gruppo, 51st Stormo, was shot down over Gozo by George "Buzz" Beurling while escorting nine German Ju-88s in mission over Malta. July 27th 1942.

There are few interesting pictures about that Aircraft hafter that fight...here you are:

Just because your skin is so great...we cannot miss to aim it perfect..so hope you don't mind if I point just a couple of things:

for what we know, insigna under the wings had no white inner color, just the same Grigio Azzurro Chiaro of the under wing Surface area...as you can see from the same skin of my previous picture (not easy to see....I know)

Also...there should be a thin Grigio Azzurro Chiaro line extending from wing under surface along the fuselage to tail and nose...but I have no pictures about this detail, sorry.

Many thanks for information Vespa - your photos are new for me. Thank you again.

I creating now next plane from the same unit - do you have some information about this plane (and about pilot too eventually) please?

Let me check what I have.

In the meantime, to complete what I wrote about the previous post about the MM7848, from the documentation we have we can reasonably assume that the livery Macchi, in lower surface, was like the following image. I have discussed with D'Amico about it

Hi Baron. Congratulations for your first MC 202 skin !

The pilot of 151-1> was Capitano Furio Niclot Daglio, commanding officer of 151a Squadriglia when he was shoot download and killed by George Beurling over Malta in July 1942

Posted (edited)

Bingo Pierre....interesting to know that Niclot Doglio was shot down by Beurling in the same day of Faliero Gelli (previous skin)..This plane was pained with the typical Aermacchi “colonies” colour scheme, introduced since spring 1942. The propeller noose was painted in white, as for all the Italian fighters.  Furio Niclot Doglio plane had the 151-1 markings (menaning C.O. of 151° Squadriglia), with a unmistakable white sign, similar to an arrow, under the cockpit

Cpt. Pilota Furio Niclot Doglio M.O.V.M. (Torino, 24 Aprile 1908 - Malta, 27 Luglio 1943), C.O. 151a Squadriglia, 20° Gruppo, 51° Stormo, Picture taken at Gela, July 1942, in front of his Macchi C.202 151-1. The V simbol on the fuselage was the identification for the Squadron Commander.

By the way...in the same squad there was another famous italian pilot...Ennio Tarantola...known as "Banana". He was the wingman of Niclot Doglio..

I love the background you have created for these skins (and the skins themselves). This kind of thing is what sucked me into the old IL2 so much.

This plane is just beautiful, isn't she?

After playing around with the Macchi template some more I felt like the initial version of my personal ride (posted in another thread), although patterned after one of the skins 378 Sq. used in Sicily, just looked a little too "muddy" and un-Italian (i.e., not flashy enough) when done in my muted naval colors, so I came up with an experimental Regia Marina naval "sparkle" camo pattern, intended to resemble the sun-reflecting look of the Mediterranean on a typical sunny day (for use by my Italian aviator from the Regia Marina on detached duty serving with TG-55, primarily tasked with anti-shipping and waterborne supply interdiction missions on the Stalingrad front):

It's lovely for sure to get info and historic data about the Aircraft we fly into our Sims...this provide a better immersion...

@Baron: about the great 378° Squadriglia skin you posted above, I just now realized that the words on tail and rear fuse are in Yellow. For many years, in modelling area, those details have been painted in Yellow but it's wrong..It's just a minor detail...I know...but it's great to have such details correct.

MM data on rear fuselage were always in Azzurro 11 (Blue n.11 in Table 10, the famous documents issued by DGCA to provide colours and scheme standardization), stencils (type weights) Azzurro 11 with some variation: Aircraft having dark background had Light Blue Gray lettering (Grigio Azzurro Chiaro).

So, in this case, they should be Grigio Azzurro Chiaro:

xz9VFQQ.jpg

Ambrosini and late Aer Macchi production displayed White stencils, like the image below:

1AZCuTp.jpg

It's interesting to note that the type designator was carried on the fin by AerMacchi and SAI Ambrosini aircrafts, while Breda built machines carried it on fuselage, above the military serial.

Nice camo Pips!

I made a skin according to your information:

Macchi Mc.202, Cpt. Furio Niclot Daglio, commanding officer of 151a Squadriglia, July 1942

Thank to all for information (especially to 4SCTVespa) about this plane and pilot. I hope that you like it - have fun:

Whao!! Congratulations Pipps and Baron  :clapping: ... Great work for sure, I'm really surprised by your skill...and painting an italian skin such those ones is not easy for sure.

Do italians dont have real winterpaints?

Hi Jokili, the answer is no...even the 12 (just twelve Breda built C.202s were delivered to 21° Gruppo in Russia ) had the colonial paintscheme....with yellow fuselage band and spinner..

Baron, thank you very much for your availability...really appreciated.

Me and my team we'd like to get a skin for our 4° Stormo CT.

The paintscheme is the same you already did about Cpt. Furio Niclot Doglio, with different insigna..of course.

The usual AerMacchi paintscheme with smoke rings was not so easy to find in 4 Stormo. We'd like to get the skin for the 96 -1 below, MM 9111

Here an image (collection D'Amico-Valentini)

3VZjF9g.jpg

In the background of the previous image there is the commander aircraft with the same paintscheme...here you are the aircraft, just to check the skin:

v36Z7ys.jpg

( In the picture above is interesting the detail of the aircraft number 97-10 wrote on tail)

The Folgore of the 4° Stormo had the name of Squad in the nose...the picture below shows a Breda aircraft but with the same insigna...

ANR-Macchi-C.202-Folgore-4-Stormo-01.jpg

Thanks a lot for your time and don't hesitate to ask for any request or details.

Please don't forget to paint the strip Grigio Azzurro Chiaro on the bottom area of the fuselage....like this image:

On many photographs, especially on some of those posted by Vespa in this thread, the antenna mast looks darker than the hazel brown camouflage. Was it let natural Wood ? Painted in a specific color ?

Posted

Hi Pierre, as you said...the radio antenna was made of wood, to guarantee good insulation was normally left in natural wood finish, just darkened by a layer of protective varnish.

Below a couple of interesting colour pictures...the radio antenna looks in natural wood....
