Hopper64 Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 New drivers are out. I have noticed some stuttering in the game, but this driver seems to improve stuttering somewhat. But I wonder if my settings have something to do with this too. Any suggestions? I have attached my settings.
No_85_Gramps Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 I have them installed but have not yet been able to test BOS w/the new driver. Hopefully I will later on today. I had noticed occasional stutters w/the last driver, maybe these will be an improvement. I don't have near the system you have so I cannot really comment on your settings.
Jupp Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 (edited) ~S~ Hopper, Yes, one suggestion is that the 16x Anisotropic Filtering is too high. From the wiki article on Anisotropic Filtering : "The sample count required can make anisotropic filtering extremely bandwidth-intensive. Multiple textures are common; each texture sample could be four bytes or more, so each anisotropic pixel could require 512 bytes from texture memory, although texture compression is commonly used to reduce this." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anisotropic_filtering Something to look into for controlling AA is Reshade for SweetFx. It's a "post processing program" that allows further tuning of AA. Blue Skies, !S -Jupp- Edited August 14, 2015 by Jupp
Urra Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 Per you screen shots, You will see no difference in quality of game if you turn off anisotropic filtering OFF, and transparency antialiasing OFF. I don't atleast. You can compare FXAA on/off to see if you get any difference on screen, I also have FXAA OFF and only ingame regular 4X on. I also have vsync on as it doesn't change performance for me. 1
Hopper64 Posted August 14, 2015 Author Posted August 14, 2015 Thanks for the insight guys. I will try those recommendations and report back. I have noticed that the stuttering in a fly by of a plane appears to be related to textures being processed on the ground terrain in the background. Seems to be less stuttering looking at the same plane where there's only sky in the background with or without clouds. I will let you guys know. Thanks again.
ST_ami7b5 Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 (edited) I noticed some stutterings I haven't had before too... Edited August 14, 2015 by ST_ami7b5
ST_ami7b5 Posted August 14, 2015 Posted August 14, 2015 (edited) I found a solution (working for me so far).. When I look fully left and then fully right at the beginning of the flight (to read the whole map into memory presumably), the problem dissappears. During those initial looks I experience heavy stutters, but no more afterwards... Hm... Edited August 14, 2015 by ST_ami7b5
Hopper64 Posted August 15, 2015 Author Posted August 15, 2015 Decreased AF to 4x and stutters are better, but they were better with the new drivers too. Suspect some of this due to driver itself. Might improve with each driver release. Thanks for the help guys.
