Just upgraded to 10 and game crashed. Anyone else seeing this?

Ran yesterday without issues. Might be drivers for card or joystick...just a wild guess though.

I am using win 10 for 2 weeks now with total success.

What version do you have installed, Home or Pro or Pro N ?

With Home version there can be some interference whenever software / driver updates run in the background, and since yesterday there were a few core updates, at least in my 3 win 10 pro machines.

If using Nvidia card, make sure you get the latest win 10 driver from their site and perform a "clean install" !

No issues for me....

For me it's same as ever, 9 times out of 10 game crashes when I exit, but mostly it works fine until that.

I've had 2 crashes since updating to WinX and BoS 1.102. Given that the BoS update was the day after I updated windows, I don't know which is the cause. The crashes aren't often enough to really bother me though. It's still very stable.

Edit: That's ignoring the game exit crash that happens 99% of the time if the launcher is still running. Seriously, someone ought to fix that. It's been like that since BoS EA.

Also updated my Nvidia drivers so that might be the cause.

I cannot even get my launcher to connect to the update server! It tells me to check my internet connection even though I am surfing when I try! The game does the same! Issue also with connecting my internet bank, FF andTB and I´m going nuts!! Dunno why I loaded this shit! (by the way I even tried to disable my firewall, virus program et all, every security shit turned off bar uninstalling them, still NOGO!)

Yes, upgraded to Win 10 about 4 days ago and I now get many CTDs.  Also,  when I exit out of the game it almost invariably results in game failure.

I had assumed this was something to do with the recent patch but maybe not.

if you have some problems when upgrade to Windows 10 such as crash, you also can use this Windows 10 Boot Genius to fix it.

Well, no problems here.

Actually I was experiencing those crashes, from time to time, in win 7.

Also when leaving the game sessions, the startup screen never quited and I had to manually "kill" it. With win 10 I never had this problem again.

I did get an update of my TIR5 software one of these days. I always had the sensation that these CTDs were TIR-related ?

No problems here, with sometimes 2hrs of continuous use of the multiplayer servers.

sometimes the game crashes maybe slightly more than with win 7 i would say

Just an idea....

Are you installing il2 under Windows folders, or on a non-system folder, preferably not even under your system partition ?

Thats true. My BoS Folder is on another partition as my Windows.

Never had this issue with Win7 though.

Happens to me too in windows 8.1.

if the launcher is still running.

Thanks for pointing out.  I closed the launcher and was able to exit without crashing, twice in a row.  It's Friday, and my day is getting better and better.

Nvidia just released windows 10 graphics drivers, if that helps...

My question would be....is Windows 10 worth the switch.  I have the free upgrade...but I've been avoiding it......

Posted (edited)

I will wait at least for few months, maybe even  longer and maybe I'll stay with my W7 at the end...  ;)

Unless you are very keen to try it I would give it a month or two longer, while some of the few bugs and driver incompatibilities are smoothed out, the free upgrade is valid for a year

Maybe switch when the game goes to directx 11 or even 12?!

Okay....thanks...I'll just wait.

I have not had any crashes with Windows 10 so far (admittedly, I have not played IL2 much), but I do get terrible screen tearing now where I had none with Windows 7.  That is with the latest Nvidia drivers that just came out (355.60).

my biggest issue is the cracking sound on the start of the BOS with the blue and red squares. it sometimes happenes in the game.

Win 7 worked flawlesly

I get a cracking sound, too. I'm glad it's not just me! Though I'm sorry you have a problem, perhaps it means it will get fixed eventually.  I just wait to put my headset on.

I also have not gotten the HUD software for programming and using profiles for the X55 Rhino to work with Windows 10.  Thankfully, the HOTAS works with Windows 10, just not the profiles.  So I just had to remap the controls in IL2. The only function that is lost by not using the profile (for me) is using the mode switch, which is really not necessary for IL2.

Crashes for me since my windows 10 upgrade every time I exit the game which is really annoying as my controller settings are not saved and I have to set them up every time. Hope this gets fixed.

I couldn't take it anymore so I rolled my system back to 7.  You can do this so long as it's within one month of the changeover to Win 10.  It also appears to be the least disruptive/destructive of the available options.   I did this last night and since then I haven't had any CTDs, game crashes on 'exit' or compatibility issues with TIR, which in my case kept shutting down for some reason.

I'll probably give Windows 10 another go in a few months and see if it's any better then.

Try not using the Launcher.

Create a shortcut of the actual game, not the launcher on your desktop.

It helped me a lot.

I get a cracking sound too. Pretty annoying if you forget headpset on when starting a game. In Win7 I never had this.

Top suggestion CBZ that's sorted it for me - Thank you!

@ Zami, is you win 10 a clean installation? I have a clean insallation, and bos is the only programm with problems.

Yes, I did a clean installation. Although I have overclocked the CPU so could be something to do with it. Was 100% stable with Win7 but things may be different when changed to Win10.

@ Zami, do you play BF4? If yes, this game is very sensetive for overclocking instabilty. If BF4 runs fine, you should not have problems with OC.

In fact I own BF4 but not played for a while. Thanks for reminding, I will install it again for testing OC.

I too, but running like administrator, this problem has solved (only one time, now run perfectly)

The problem that I have now it's if I push ALT+TAB, for example to calibrate freetrack. The sim goes down with a DX error message.

I must run the game as admin, if i do not, tracki ir do not work.
