Why noone on the DED with expert settings?

So many people fly on the normal server from DED. I love the quick action as well but i dont get why noone flys on the DED with expertsettings. I mean on normal there practically is no moment of surprise. Both sides could benefit greatly from the moment of surprise.

On normal its just lean back, donbt watch your six since youll be seeing the red triangle get bigger if it gets dangerous. Its really just the acoustics warningsignal thats missing to make it totally arcade:)

Also the VVS airplanes can be flown much more effective without the auto enginemanagement.  So...

... why is noone populating the expert DED?

Some pilots are turning off the icons/tags and using the normal server as a training tool for expert. We all have to start somewhere.

Wings of Liberty seems to be the preferred server at the moment. Don't know why but it is.

Id like to fly there too. But the JG I am in is pretty inactive in BOS. I harly get a 2man rotte to run. And everone knows its suicide to fly there alone.

Don't know how the DED Expert server is set up but I know a couple of others that are great but still empty like the Syndicate or Stg2 Expert. Later one was the first one ever I've seen a 8 IL-2 swarm taking off and destroying a whole town, than returning back. It was a great expirience even though I just escorted them :)

Guess we will all have to hold our breath for the new summer maps and hope that they manage to introduce some back into the game so MP is starting to fill up again.

I prefer the expert servers if I go MP, but the missions are not friendly to ground attack sorties.  Just the odd train and all the trucks are used as barricades to get the air quakers to taxi right.

Have tried WoL a few times and much of it is spent flying by myself looking for someone... :(

I don't agree with any of this.  DED Normal and WoL have one thing very much in common.  You're only as good there as the opposition permits.  If you get really skillful opponents on DED Normal things get very hard very quickly.  On the other hand, if you fly Axis as I do, (well, back when I was actually able to fly there) and your Soviet opposition 'gift' you the airspace above 1000 m, then it can be quite a rewarding experience.  Whatever the case, you can usually be guaranteed a very intense experience.

On WoL, you're far more likely to run into organized opposition but that said, even as a loner, you can enjoy some success if you keep your wits about you, assume that any enemy you encounter will probably have a wingman and fly accordingly.   Ultimately, your level of success just depends on who else is there with you at the time.

I'm going to miss DED.  Good times....

Dunno, ground attack is my favourite activity in MP at the moment and from that perspective mud moving - and proper bombing, mind - is the only way to win on WoL at least. Also the reason why the German team loses almost every single round as they do no seem to have any number of folks interested in playing the objective. It's central to all other objective based servers I ever tried as well, like the currently unfortunately deserted Eagle's Nest. WoL is decently populated, as far as BoS servers go at the very least.

Plenty of stuff to go around in any case.

Moving tank columns that are attacking places, airfields set up for your bombing pleasure, factories, depots, infantry/artillery positions and the trains you already mentioned.

Downside being the kill message spam and that navigation is a joke due to everyone being able to see themselves (and themselves only) on the map at all times. And some wonky Google translate messages or some missions without translated messages at all.

Just to be fair.

Oh this again...

Is there only two or three months a year where people play flight sims, is that the argument?

Let me summarise:

So first it was "wait for the game to be released, then it'll be better!"

Then it was "wait for the server software, then it'll be better!"

Then it was "wait for the missions to be made, then it'll be better!"

Then it was winter.

Then there was a short time where some folks said that "Once BoM is there...", but I missed most of it as I had given up on the forum.

Now it's summer.

So, soon it's going to be winter again?

And then what?

Fact is the numbers in MP are abysmal and have been abysmal since a couple of... things happened shortly before release. And no, comparing it to a different sim won't make it any better either, unfortunately.

MP finally has the capacity to be somewhat fun again with 64 player servers and a ton of well made and complex missions and servers, but the MP community was quote obviously severely harmed by what happened.

I mean if many of the folks that invested so much of their time and effort in MP now say they lost interest in keep working on their stuff because of there is so few folks that partake...

Meh, in the end I guess I should consider myself lucky that there is at least one server where I can play a few hours a day with a decent population. Even if I do not like all the settings.

Yep,sure, violating and ignoring.Feel free to contact forum moderators to ban me at least for a week.

Be surprised, yesterday I joined DED expert and stayed there for a while. No one connected. So I switched to DED Aerobatics to have some fun with ishak. Then I did one mission in WoL.Then I went for a beer.I did not came to forum to complain that kids dont wanna play with me in a long wall of text resembling worn out scratched vinyl...excuse me,have to go back to work.Oh,and excuse me,that I have to work and dont have time to play with you.

Heh...

I'm writing this at work, but feel free to keep projecting.

Did I hit a nerve there or something? Server are empty and yet folks have kept trying to tell the forum how "it'll get better soon", that's all I said. If you see yourself in that statement that doesn't mean it's my fault.

proper HL interface and CO-OP mode and they will come back in droves :) build it and they will come . :)

HL was the result of an absolutely abysmal interface in the original IL2 and nothing more. With that said, a simple global chat bar in the main MP screen would probably help a lot. But I think the real problem is the atrocious single player. People hop into MP to extend the life of a game they love typically, it's only with MMO's and a few fringe cases where most go MP first. BoS's single player is so shallow that it might as well not exist beyond the basic QMB. That design choice doesn't foster long term play which in turn cuts MP participation down. And that results in a bunch of empty server which in turn discourages those who did stick around from playing. Hurrah negative feedback loops.

@Hrothgar HL or a clone of it either way it would be a vast improvement.

That is the simple truth. The tail is trying to wag the dog and it is not working. God knows I could bang on about the critical importance of gameplay for ages, but the apathy of the developers is almost crushing.

Peace,wavebreaker ;)

I joined DED Expert yesterday, just to see the rotation of maps = what is there to offer.Frankly I was a bit disappointed when big Velikie Luki map finished and there were those small lapino fast-food style maps running around.I tried to finish those maps flying bomb missions in ishak to see what will be next, but AAA respawned every few minutes and to close the AF was not in my power,as I was flying alone there.Later Winger jumped in and started to chase me around :) I quit later to go testing caryatid's server. It was fun as he has there AI mixed in.We were 4 players there and had a pleasant time shooting AI and each other.

^Thats the key, use the AI to fill in when player numbers are low. Can't tell you how many times I have put up a dog fight against Ai mission on my dserver and just messed around shooting ai by myself. After an hour a dozen players filled in to join the fun.

Also, I love the idea of an in game chat screen attached to the mp server list. It's badly needed and would really help mp in many ways.

I am not 100% sure on this. When I first got into flight sim with the start or IL2 I did not spend too long in the single player mode but got hooked on the MP not using full real but the so called normal settings. Huge furballs huge fun like JG-Oldies with I-15's carrying rockets, UK dedicated, RCAF_FB, 334th dedicated. The word was fun. Then I joined a great squad which took the experience up a level and made a few friends, shared tS, meet ups, squadron forum etc. Now I feel comfortable in full real, but the style is more focused and not as much fun as the early days unless flying with others on comms.

So to get the numbers up imho we need servers that help newbies in but we also need a price that stops them looking away at the first glance $80 can maybe 2 xbox games which may be more appealing to a newbie.

Maybe as T-Oddball recalls we will see 1000+ on the servers

Technically positive feedback loop

But I agree, nothing like the offering with FB and a surprising lack of in terest from those developing, given that they had a model in front of them.

The engine can't handle AI in satisfying numbers.
