I've recently setup a computer at my office for MP, so if I sound out of the loop on some of this...that's the reason.  Home....has satellite connection only.  My primary goal is to team up with my son who is in Germany and fly some missions together, so I've been looking around on some of the servers.  Let me just say....having read so many complaints about the MP I was surprised to see the setup that AbortedMan has created.  Like I say...I've been out of the MP for years now, but I'm not a newbie to war servers...all I can say is..what else do you want?  This server is excellent from what I can see...for historical mission oriented combat.  Granted...one visit only...but enough for me to wonder...what's lacking?  I'll be back...with my son flying wingman real soon.  And yes...the flak got me on my first mission trying to knockout a depot.....Thanks AbortedMan for all your hard work...

There are two or three really good servers with great mission set-ups available.. but no one ever flies on them.

People are too busy flying circles around enemy airfields on Wings of Liberty to join an interesting, fresh, exciting mission-based server (like Eagle's Nest, like Air Domination etc.)

One main thing - STATS!!!

Add www page with stats - "main glory board"* to server with well builded missions and you will definitly have full house all the time.

* no need to add detailed stats, just top 5 or top 10 guys with highest streak ( and you are loosing the streak if you got killed or captured as well ), airkills for fighters and 2nd with groundkills for bombers.

Plus it changes a gameplay on server and people become more caerfull during combat.

I wouldnt mind stats but its so easy to get stuck on who has more kills whilst your objectives get bombed to oblivion. One stat id like to see is wins/losses of each side. Then u can do the internal math. Like "oh man, i always fly german and they lose 90% of the time" maybe it will click that they need to ptfo a little more.

Hey thanks a bunch, JagdNeun! I appreciate the kind words and appreciation for a objective oriented mission! TheElf is working on a new mission that is modeled as a very accurate representation of some key battles that I'll be doing some features on. It's coming kind of slow due to the apparent lack of interest for anything other than airquake (my enthusiasm is waning), but keep your eyes peeled.

This! I've also suggested a team points accelerator for the winning side. 1.5 points to the winning team similar to some FPS games - or cut the losing team's points in half might be even better. Can't stat pad if you aren't helping your team win!

Individual stats seem to be a nice "have" but all they end up doing is reducing activity to furball status.  And while the occasional furball is fun, there is more enjoyment (IMHO) in a mission oriented scenario.

For a mission oriented scenario to work you need some sort of cooperation.  How is this going to happen on a public server?  It isn't!  But I'd like to be proven wrong!

If we presume that individual stats entice players to a public server, how does a mission designer include them without providing the motivation to furball?

The issue is more about time.....to devote to the mission than anything else.  These days I feel like more and more people either feel that they cannot plan their day around an event, or just don't want the hassle of having to show up at a prescribed time.  I mean....Johnny is at one soccer match on the other end of town and Ellie is at another one.....or this practice..or homework...Well, you get my point. Take a fighter sweep mission....it's extremely flexible with a lot of freedom...Grab a wingman and head out on the prowl, jump in and out of the server...no problem.  Jumping in a 111 and heading out on a bombing run....well, it requires more planning and more time to complete.  For me personally...right now, all I have time for is to meet up with my son and fly together for an hour or so.  Still, that gives us enough time to Jabo out and knock out some ground targets...or try to.  Right now..I need some practice, and a mission based server with some AI prowling, or ground attack aircraft pounding....would help...in spite of the lack of other human pilots.

I think you hit the nail on the head jag, I have a couple of hours a day to fly, the quick action furball is great for that. I commend Abortedman for the work he put in to these scenarios, how about putting some AI to shoot down in the mission.

The way BOS MP plays out, people gravitate to populated servers. If 1 or 2 guys are flying in a server that has AI A2A opposition along with the usual ground based objectives, then a couple other guys come in to checkout the mission, then before you know it there's 20 or more people flying around having fun.

The point I'm getting at is that these talented mission builders should put the capable AI of this sim to work, and make default missions with AI that work for anytime of day whether there's 1 or 40 players logged in.

I like the long historical missions too, but the place for those are for planned community events, not running as a default on an empty server.

AHA!  You need to keep a close eye on the Eagles Nest server in the next week or so, we feel your pain and are listening.  TheElf and Aborted have been putting in alot of hard work with detail to placement and attention to gameplay.  We should be putting something up this week with the new features!  Stay Tuned!

Feel free to drop by the Eagle's Nest Development Server and leave comments here.  A work in progress to be sure.  Would love to here community inputs.  Maybe I should start and new thread?

This makes me very pleased. I've been out of playing BOS since beta, the unlocks annoyed the crap out of me. But I remember back when I was playing that there was 2 servers that were great, syndicate, and eagles nest. Both were frequently full (I don't think I ever was able to get in on syndicate). Is your server even up now? It's listed, but I can't join. I've been checking late and there was literally no one on at all, which when I remembered the way it was was depressing. After a bit though, I figured I'm so rusty it's probably better this way, as I can log in and practice ground attack without anyone interfering (plus navigation). Logged into a server, and as soon as I did..people began connecting. I think no one tries to play at certain times because...no one plays at certain times, which is self fulfilling.

I do wonder if there are too many servers. Like or hate CLoD (I like it) the fact that ATAG runs basically the only server is actually a plus. First and most important it's an outstanding server. Second it puts everyone in one space which makes for fun games. I wonder if a great server - like I know yours is - can get some critical mass behind it, if people will just start playing, because "hey, MP isn't dead!".

I want to encourage you though, and your group, to keep working and putting out the types of stuff you all do. It IS appreciated and I hope to see more in the very near future.

Nope, still TWB The Eagle's Nest! We're getting our ducks in a row and working on some cool things for the very near future. Tell your friends!

OK the Stg server had a mission made by yourself on it which (combined with the fact your server has vanished) is why I wondered.

Can I ask you where (roughly) your server is located in the US? I hate to say it but the ping sometimes used to put me off at times. Yes it's your server and I'm not complaining, I really like your missions and look forward to their return...the WOL fur-ball server isn't a whole lot of fun most of the time.

Nooooo!

Please keep the waning away from the enthusiasm.

The TWB server is still my favourite....when I get time to fly that is.

I am geographically and temporally challenged - I live in New Zealand, but I am keen to get back on the horse (or handy sheep even).

South Central.

I believe it is near Kansas City, Missouri.

I wonder what difference in ping you would get (for EU people) if it was in Chicago or NY. Ping between me and the WOL server is ~80....I can't remember what I had with TWB but I think it was over 140.

just thinking out aloud and not stamping my feet for change, if/when TWB server comes back I will certainly make more of an effort to get on it. I had some great flights on there when it first came out :) also 25 people on that server was plenty to have fun.

EDIT: We should just move the US a bit closer to Europe :D
