6./ZG26_McKvack Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 This is five, firing rockets. Direct hit! Target is on fire! Nice shot This is 4 rockets gone! This is 2, starting attack run! This is 2 my left wing is on fire, bailing out! il2 BOS/BOM feels very quiet and your wingmans barely talk to you except reporting targets far away from your own sight. Feels dead when playing il2. I feel most lonely when flying a bomber. You don't hear a thing from your gunners. It feels lame and dead. 1
Finkeren Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 While not entirely realistic and with varying quality of voice acting, the radio comms in IL2FB-PF-1946 are the best ever put in a WW2 sim. It'll take a lot of work to match or outdo them, but it would take so little to improve on what we have now. Heck, just add acknowledgements ("Roger that", "Affirmative", "Aye Aye sir" etc) from your flight mates when you issue an order.
Feathered_IV Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Immersive ambient radio chatter and AI speech is the most effective way of making the player feel like there is a living, breathing world out there. It's such a shame it is so badly neglected. 1

Feathered_IV Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 True. The voices sound very robotic at the moment. With four million combatants on the Stalingrad front and who knows how many thousands of radio transmitters, the airwaves must have been filled with many more messages near and far than what we are hearing now.
Brano Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 I loved different language packs in old sturm.Slovak was my favourite, ofcourse, followed closely by hungarian and finnish Slovak pack has been voiced by real guys mostly from virtual squadron Letka_13.Same guys who made map of Slovakia for old sturm. It was funny to hear well known voices in the game and it created kind of personal bond with it.They also used their photos for pilots of Slovak Air Arms.Ugly mug shots
Danziger Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 I agree. I love all the radio chatter in old IL2. I have the subtitles off so I don't have a clue what they are saying but it makes me feel like I'm not alone.
Brano Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Air traffic controller was one of the voices I liked, for immersion.Vectoring you home, giving approval for landings...it felt like someone down there did care about you And confirmations from wingies are a must.If they dont have the radio transmitter, only receiver, they could at least wave their wings or stick the thumb up....out of the cockpit
1CGS LukeFF Posted August 11, 2015 1CGS Posted August 11, 2015 Sure, they are good, but Veteran66's radio comms are even better. Those are the ones that make you feel like you are really there.

I agree...Veteran has done an excellent job with this. I'd still like to hear some of the old radio banter.....Damn, Hell....Get him off me....I'm bailing out.... Bombs away...It was neat to hear your Stukas/Bombers thank you for the escort...All this really does add to the immersion. Edited August 12, 2015 by JagdNeun
Danziger Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 And your gunner cursing you for making hard maneuvers
II./JG27_Rich Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 (edited) I have the lady in the control tower instead of that bully macho dude yelling at me. As Hans-Joachim Jabs says a nice calm voice is much better Edited August 12, 2015 by II./JG27_Rich
Feathered_IV Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 The biggest problem with the current voices is the repetition. It makes you want to put your head through a wall. It also prevents anyone from trying to improve them because anything they do will be just as annoying in a short time. The developers need to change the way the controller-voice is programmed for a start. Instead of just reading from his laundry list to nobody in particular with no introduction and no end, he needs to do something like the following: "This is control to Alpine 1 (the player or lead of your flight) Are you receiving?" He awaits your response. When none is forthcoming he repeats, "This is control to Alpine 1. Are you receiving?" You hit TAB and press the affirmative key. Yes I am receiving you... "Alpine one, enemy aircraft in sector G12. Bearing 220. Altitude 1600" Thank you control. You press TAB again and from the list of responses choose the Received and understood option. Job done. You felt like you talked to someone and got some useful information in return. 3
No601_Swallow Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Could we mod the old voice files into BOS/BOM? Taking my inspiration from Veteran66, I did an experiment for one of my missions. I transformed an IL-2 radio call ("Hello, little friends...") into an mp3 clip and set the MCU to play on a proximity trigger (when pilots meet the bombers they're tasked to escort. It even worked! Once! Anyway, the whole radio-call set up seems eminently hackable, and mission builders can have all sorts of fun with different types of in-mission media. Testing, as always, continues...
