ACG_pezman Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 When is the feature to refuel and rearm going to be implemented? It seems to me, on the normal servers at least, it would encourage saving your aircraft lest you become maxed out after landing and trying to respawn. Not flaming or trolling the devs or anyone, just asking as an investor in this venture, so to speak.

SharpeXB Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 It would be a cool feature that would open up some possibilities in SP too. I recently read an account of a Luftwaffe unit (JG 54 I think) that stayed behind as a rear guard action using a surrounded airfield. They just took off, fought, landed, rearmed and went back into action continually for days outnumbered and cut off. Wouldn't that be a great SP mission.
Finkeren Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 (edited) The motivation to bring the aircraft back in one piece is already there in the scoring system and on servers that operate with limited numbers of specific types of aircraft. This is IMHO an unnecessary feature that will add nothing to the sim and is no more realistic than respawning after a flight. Edited August 10, 2015 by Finkeren 1
ACG_pezman Posted August 11, 2015 Author Posted August 11, 2015 I guess what I am trying to say is that on the normal server you can be maxed out of your team for a while. And while I fly both Axis and Allies, I find more of my time is on the Allied side because everyone flies Axis. Now, on the rare occasion that the Allies have more players, I do get to fly Axis, yet before I can land and take a new aircraft the teams are unbalanced and I am forced to either not fly and wait or switch teams again. It would be nice if you could land and not lose your slot to someone who just joined and never flies Allies. Maybe it's just a pipe dream, but maybe not.
Finkeren Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Well, I can relate to that, the autobalancing of teams works less than ideal now. However, I think having a rearm/refuel feature is an unnecessarilly complicated way to deal with this problem. Just make it so that a player in MP doesn't lose his/her slot on the team immediately after they despawn. Give like 15-20 sec before their slot is opened for others to join that team to allow time to start a new flight and keep the slot. Problem solved much easier.

SharpeXB Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 (edited) Anything that actually encourages the players online to actually land and take off in their planes rather than airspawn and air quake would be a nice feature. Rearming really doesn't sound like a difficult feature to add. Look at how it works in DCS. It's pretty simple. Although I see that feature being more used in SP just as a mission feature. MP people wouldn't use it because it takes time. Already nobody even wants to taxi and they just take off without the runways. So none of the air quake players will bother landing anyways. The only server that I know off that allow this are air-quake servers to begin with anyway. What is your point?

beepee Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 The point is that most players don't bother to use the runways even when they're on the non quake servers. Is there not something in the FMB that can make it too bumpy to not use the runways? That would then be up to mission builders to implement. Personally, taxiing to the runway and lining up for rolling are just as enjoyable to me as blowing stuff up. 1
-TBC-AeroAce Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 I guess that you could place a load of objects around the taxi ways but that would just look silly and make the game look crap for people that have the discipline. This really bugs me actually I have seen people that spawn literally right at the start of the runway and they still just blast off in a straight line. The other day I was landing a pe-2 I saw to la's crash on runway, and as I was coming to a stop a bloody pe-2 decided to take off directly into me !!! I wish i had it on tape
ACG_pezman Posted September 28, 2015 Author Posted September 28, 2015 Yeah, I wish takeoffs and landings were near impossible off the runway. I can understand doing it if there was scramble, but that's it. It kind of kills the immersion to see people start up and just go. Sometimes its funny though. I'm gonna name drop here, but yesterday on Wings of Liberty as I was starting my taxi to the runway, I was rudely cut off by an Il-2 that couldn't wait; nearly wrecked us both. I was able to stop in time just to watch this Il-2, piloted by Smoke, turn to takeoff through the middle of the taxi way and parking area, hit a tree with his wing, flip and explode. The his bomb load detonated and there was a mushroom cloud. Good fun to watch. All that time spent to reload in, start up, and go again could have been averted if he'd just use the runway.
=CFC=Conky Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Hello all, Regarding people not using the runways for take off, I don't have all that much time in mp but I do find it difficult to find the runway in the first place. The taxiways are not that well marked and as of yet I have not found an easily recognizable landmark for the runway, like the control tower in IL2: 1946. I sometimes do take off from the 'field', but then I make a circuit around the base to get the layout, so I can taxi to the runway on my next go. Good hunting, =CFC=Conky

Good hunting, =CFC=Conky I found a PDF of all the airfields on the Stalingrad map. I can't remember where I downloaded it from though

Sokol1 Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Is there not something in the FMB that can make it too bumpy to not use the runways? Make some invisible objects for MB, to place around runways.
