That's a tough one. You really just have to experiment to see what works for you. I've gone from 400 down to 250 and everywhere in between. I've pretty much settled on 350.

between 170-250 meters. Typically shooting at close range and low deflection why am I not good shooter.

Yup, start out closer where you will have more success. It reduces you chance for errors. Get in close and hit em with everything.

I'd reccomend 250-270 as a start. For ground attack I used to push it out to 350 and have now settled on that range for most missions A2A or A2G.

Closer is usually said to be better as the closer you are, harder it is to miss and the more energy your AP rounds have to pass through your target's armor.

Now my advice would be to play a dozen dogfight against the IA with object markers hidden and track (record) the 6 last, simply firing when you feel like so, without worrying about the result.

Then review these tracks with the object markers turned on and write down at what distance you took your shots and the average might then give you your very own "instinctive" convergence setting.

I always recommend Dart's convergence video:

Would be awesome to have it with BoS' sights, but the principles remains.

Al lthe videos made by DART were excellent, although I wonder if his airfield AA suppression method still works where he takes out an airfield full of flak without a hit. I have a feeling the BoS AA is a bit more brutal :)

I use Dart's airfield tactics with success but only for two passes max. After that the 20mm usually find a way to keep up. In real life it was usually a death sentence to attack AAA in more than one pass anyway. But, yes, using all three dimensions to keep the AAA in a constant state of motion works in BOS as well.
