Guest deleted@50488 Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 I wonder if there is a way, for instance through mission editing ( and how to do it ... ) that could allow me to set a ground wind of 12 m/s for instance. Even if in the weather menu I set a high wind value ( max possible 12m/s ), in the rw it is only up to at most 7 m/s... Can we force it to be 12, or even more, by editing wind layers in the mission ? Thx for any hints guys!
Jupp Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 (edited) ~S~ Jcomm, You absolutely can adjust the wind speed and direction at ground level in the Mission Atmosphere Options. Sorry but I cannot create a screenshot of the pop up interface of the Atmosphere Options of the ME atm... Maybe what you are experiencing is a deflection wind, thus the discrepancy between target and observed? Try aligning the Direction of the Wind with your Runway Heading? Then see if that matches 100% expectation? Other than that I don't know of any other way to dupe the behavior of the wind. And also, mind you, there is a (undocumented) Turbulence setting as well. 0=None then 1<2<3<4<5-->? Blue Skies, S! -Jupp- Edited July 24, 2015 by Jupp
Guest deleted@50488 Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Thx Jupp, I am actually aware of that interface, and that's the one I use to set the winds, but I guess IL2 BoS correctly applies friction effects near ground, so, even if you set, in that interface, a wind of 12m/s ( the max that can be set there ), friction will slow it near the ground, and the max you will get will be around 7m/s. I then usually pick various airfields until I find one where the wind component matches what I want for a x-wind. But I would like to know if I can possibly edit some file for the QMB, allowing me to set an even higher than 12m/s wind ?
No601_Swallow Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 JComm, I think Jupp is referring to the Mission Editor, rather than the QMB. In the ME you can set the wind (and higher atmospheric bands) to whatever you want, from whatever direction you want. With turbulence turned up to 11 you can make it stomach churning to take off and land, and at higher altitudes you can make navigating even more of a bore! If you're whipping up a little something in the ME, you can easily plonk down a wind sock next to your spawning point, so you can "see" the wind! Great fun! (By the way, and off topic: for those who don't know, JimTM is working on a manual for the ME. His work is already looking really detailed and really useful, so hopefully, once it's ready, more people will be tempted to have a go at it.)
Jupp Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 (edited) ~S~ Fellas, This is a great case of helping someone else out, also ends up, in helping yourself out. Good karma. I couldn't make ss's of the Mission Editor interfaces, until just now, accidentally having left "Dropbox" running while trying to. I only had Dropbox open because I just re uploaded my missions to it, and, it also saves screenshots! Something I did not know. Surely enough, it's the only program that I have that works for this, and good thing too, as I answer a lot of questions about the ME. Any way, here are the particulars (circled in green) that I brought to Jcomms question. And yes, Jcomm, I can see what you mean as valid too. Blue Skies (maybe not the best log off for a mission writer post the last update, lol), !S -Jupp- Edited July 24, 2015 by Jupp
JimTM Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Jupp, have a look at Screenshot Captor for grabbing screenshots. It's free and available from the CNET download page. Thanks for the heads up on the ME manual Swallow. I hope that guy will hurry up and get it done! ;-) Cheers!
=LD=Penshoon Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 or you just press the Print Screen button and ctrl+v in mspaint or any other img editing program
No601_Swallow Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 [ Note to Friendly mods: please leave this little thread in the General Discussion room! It might encourage pilots to have a look in the Mission Builder's room and sample the delights within! ]
JimTM Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 or you just press the Print Screen button and ctrl+v in mspaint or any other img editing program That's definitely the easiest method. However, something like Screenshot Captor allows you to grab part of a screen and provides other options. Whatever works for you. Salut! 1
Guest deleted@50488 Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 Thx guys! Precious info for me to experiment with :-) !!!!
JimTM Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 (edited) jcomm, I haven't confirmed this for BoS yet, but in RoF, the wind direction setting refers to the direction that the wind is blowing to, not from. So, a wind setting of 270 means that the wind is blowing from the East to the West. Edited July 24, 2015 by JimTM

Thx Jim, then it's just like in DCS World :-) Just one more thing - that Mission Editor ( BOS Editor ) comes with BoS ? And... can I use it to edit the default missions - because I 'd rather prefer to pick one already there and start playing with the weather variables :-)
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 jcomm, I haven't confirmed this for BoS yet, but in RoF, the wind direction setting refers to the direction that the wind is blowing to, not from. JimTM Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 (edited) Yes, jcomm. To start the mission editor, run STEditor.exe, which is in your game folder under /bin/editor. Until the BoS editor manual is ready, you can get the RoF manual at https://rof.s3.amazonaws.com/UM/ROF_Mission_Editor_User_Manual.zip. Vander has some RoF editor tutorials at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL724688FAC76E4385 Here's an (work-in-progress) extract from the BoS manual re. editing missions: Edit the Mission That You Just Played You can edit a mission that you just played, which is useful if you want to edit the following: - A mission generated by the BoS Quick Mission Builder (QMB) - A BoS campaign mission - A mission that you joined online Do the following: 1. Copy file _gen.mission and rename the copy to newname.mission, where newname is whatever you want to call the new mission. Note: _gen.mission is the latest mission that you played. 2. Open the renamed mission in the editor. 3. In the Mission Properties dialog, specify the new name in the Name field and change the Mission Type to "single" (for a single-player mission) or "deathmatch" (for a multi-player mission). Hopefully the above is all accurate but it's only in draft stage right now. Cheers! Edited July 24, 2015 by JimTM 1
