FuriousMeow Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 (edited) This is an alpha video. ALPHA, so its just to show off some of the new features and is far from complete. ITS FAR FROM COMPLETE. Some neat things, the sun rise/set looks nice. The scratchy glass effect is pretty cool, not sure if I like it more but I like it. I think the thatching is way too thick there. It looks like a P38's canopy today with lots of UV exposure compared to the virtually brand new condition almost every airplane had during WWII - especially a P38L that came out in 1944 and would have seen maybe a year's worth of use before the end of WWII. The active gauge glass reflections are cool. A bit overdone, but cool. The asphalt runway is probably the nicest effect. The low alt terrain looks very good as well. The mountain tops visible over the haze/fog are amazing! Overall, a very nice engine for an alpha build that is far from complete. They are also limited by download size and to keep the software capable of running on older systems to retain their monthly/yearly payment base. When it's released, I'll certainly sign up for a month or two to check it out. Started out with the original Confirmed Kill back in 1994 as my first MMP air combat sim. Dial up into cserve shell and then launch the software and select spx emulation. Back in those days to get online flight sims to even function well predictability algorithms had to be developed so the other aircraft's next position would be guesstimated based on speed/angle/stick inputs and if that would lead to some funny flight paths if the other person's connection was really wonky. Good times. Anyway, here's the alpha video. AHII New Engine Alpha video Edited July 24, 2015 by FuriousMeow
Guest deleted@50488 Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 I used it long ago, the evaluation version, and by that time there weren't many alternatives. From the video, looks a bit arcadish to me, somehow WT-like, although I never even installed WT...
BeastyBaiter Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 AHII is and always has been an arcade game. It's the WT of 15-20 years ago. I can't say those new graphics impress me either, they still look pretty bad. But they are a massive improvement over the previous engine.
SimFreak Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I stopped playing when they introduced easy FM for the general population...that was over 10 years ago. It seems that game still haven't progressed much. Although, no other game will let you have single server with over 700 players on it.
BeastyBaiter Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 EVE online, current record 4000+ players in one battle. No, I was not in it. But if you mean flying games, then yeah, I can't think of any others that allow more than maybe 100.

I think WW2OL, it it hasn't collapsed, came close second.
