Shea Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Hi guys,i was just wondering would it be possible for us to get a live chat for the forums?I do be on egosoft forums alot and the live chat is fantastic for asking questions and for help.Cheers
AcesHigh Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I like the idea, but don't think the traffic is near enough yet to keep a chat active. Not a lot of activity on the forum yet.
Wind Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Live chat is for the most companies a money drain and nuisance, especially if the product has not launched yet.. The time and money, in the form of infra & mods, are just not worth it. Too much moderation even if you would have a close knit, politicaly and cultural, group. Let alone on this* kind of forum where you would have different nations//national background with the associated baggage that would come with it. With * I dont mean this particular forum, but any forums that has connections and connotations to politics and history in war. Things just will take a sharp downward spiral faster than you can say Gerbil. But, somekind of chat, especially during alpha/beta phase, solely dedicated to game issues, that the devs and mods would be on top of...well, that would be goddam money. If handled well, people could get info with as little latency as possible, devs could spot problems basically in real time and the evolution of the product could be sped up a lot. That comes with a lot of caveats though : What kind of infra could 777/1c put up and run, what kind of layers would it have and foremost, could we monkeys ( players) make it work? And with "work" I mean that the people could actually behave and act like a constructive tool, like a valuable part of the developement process instead of degrading into a political or nitpicking fuckwits. That is the question.
=LD=Hethwill Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) Maybe set up a common voice server ? Edited October 24, 2013 by =LD=Hethwill
LLv34_Flanker Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 S! Like Hethwill said. At least on the live streams the discussion was very polite and stayed on subject. I do not think anyone would go to TS and act like a derp. Banning and muting is so easy there. I think a voice comm could help avoid misunderstandings too, easier to explain verbally than writing if your native language is not english.
