Well, this game really has me hooked! I just took delivery of my brand spanking new Asus Strix GTX970 OC GPU -   card. I cannot wait to plug her in and hit the skies in my 109. Hopefully no more 30fps under the clouds at low level as I try and spot VVS planes (I thought the Owl was appropriate :) )as they tend to lurk down at low level a lot of the time..

I am replacing a R9 270X but the word on the street is that Nvidia is better suited to BoS so I went with the above choice.

Anyways, lets hope it improves my aiming too!

I am very happy with my Galax GTX 970 Exoc... extremely good value for money, it copes quite well even at 4K,  the only issue with BoS is that it requires a good/decent GPU and a fast processor to get the very best from it  mind you the same was true of original IL-2 back in the day...hardware has actually got cheaper even though it certainly does not seem like it

I was looking at getting the Galax GTX 980 Ti which was coming in at 10,000 ZAR / 820USD but that was out of my budget.

Got my Galax 970 black edition for 5,000 ZAR, was looking hard at the Galax GTX980 but could not justify the cost in any way.... :( also with the 980Ti due out soon I knew I would regret it, sad thing about ZA is that there are rarely price drops for last gen, importers only bring in enough to meet the original demand at highest price point

Can confirm that the 970 is a very good card.

By the time you divide the hours of fun into the cost.....it's a great move....Hope you get the desired results.  Nothing like firing her up on the initial install.....

I have a GTX 970 4Gb for more than a year now and it is a great graphic card for this game but you also need a good motherboard lot of memory and a fast cpu and let us not forget a ssd to fasten the access to the game.

Guys,

I do dream of the chance to make an upgrade to my rig, but Heck!  Il2-Bos runs so nice on my i5 2500 @ 3,3 GHz, with a Geeforce GTX 650 Ti 1GB graphics card :-)

I just can't imagine what it would be if run on one of your systems....

Well, maybe we see us up high.. Enjoy your new Card !!! My is a zotac 970 ... You will get a mostly over 60 fps Fun:)

Hi GD... did not see you last night but I can tell you all this.

When I flew under heavy cloud and very low over trees I got a lot of jerky stuttering, that is all gone! I am soooo stoked, that alone was the single biggest PIA that is now a thing of the past. Flying at tree-top height is silky smooth. :):salute:

I also used to experience random big jerky jumps when I looked around with head tracking in open skies..... no more of that.

Now we just need the devs to sort out the blur bubble and the new BoM planes and outdoor life and my girlfriend will be history  .

The 970 isn't a true 4GB card. It's 3.5GB with a 500MB lower speed RAM. I don't know why they did that, pretty ridiculous but it is set in stone now. There was a huge uproar over that, and lots of people returned their cards because if the game they were playing got into the last 500MB apparently it caused fluctuating performance.

I'm not so sure if it really as big a deal as some made it to be, but I only have two 780 Tis that are only 3GB and I play all of my games perfectly fine so I'm curious what the hell those guys were doing that they noticed performance issues when their cards went above 3.5GB usage. I have a 2560x1440 Gsync monitor and use 4x FSAA in most games. I'm guessing the people that complained were running that, or higher, resolutions with 16x FSAA and super sampling or something and then bitching about their performance when they should have gone with a 980 if they were throwing that much at a 970.

Not really pertinent, sort of is, but I'm really looking forward to seeing the Pascal lineup next year. The data sheets of what they are going to be capable of make my gaming hands all twitchy.
