Feathered_IV Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 I wasn't a fan, but I was impressed with the voice acting and the way the producers put some real thought into ways of making the player feel like they were a part of unit. It made flight sim developers look much less creative.

6./ZG26_5tuka Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 As a great fan of the original games I'm watching this with a split opinion. The imersion is definetly there due to the great graphics and audio but the gameplay just doesn't seem to be exiting on long term. Sure the original Battlefront was pretty simple as well but it simply feautured more (space battles, galactic conquest mode, campaign) and the overall package (for it's time) seemed more solid. With this one I fear that we get mediocre to bad gameplay overshadowed by nice graphics and sounds to create an appealment for the customer base. Hopefully this title will become more. Btw. The sound acting is only in this trailer. There's a bunch of gameplay videos on the internet already and it doesn't show anything like here in the trailer.
Boomerang Posted July 19, 2015 Author Posted July 19, 2015 Looks to have the old game play feel about it.. Big space battle ??
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Looks to have the old game play feel about it.. Big space battle ?? Unfortunately no. They both try to make a game very different from the old Battlefront and they won't include space battles at all. Biggest battes you will be fought with 20vs20 on ground only in selective game modes. Other modes will feauture less players. As far as gameplay goes this is the latest official video released: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2DMGRrHFiY The idea bhind the "Walker Assault" mode is actually good but I feel the gameplay is too simplyfied. Combined with quite low diversity and restrictions it forces on the player I fear it's becoming more of a mass dumbmarket title for short term entertained without great depth.
Willy__ Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Looks to have the old game play feel about it.. Big space battle ?? No space battles on the new one
jeanba Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 No space battles on the new one Payware DLC anyone ?
SharpeXB Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 Looks incredible. I have been waiting for a current Star Wars game that wasn't Legos or The Force Unleashed (which was great fun but basically Legos with better graphics) I prefer first person style games like shooters and flight sims so all the 3rd person styles, like the Old Republic etc don't have so much appeal to me. This genre badly needed a boost into the current graphics era with something cool like this game. Looks fantastic. Pre ordered already.
Jason_Williams Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 I saw the new Battlefront at E3. The gameplay isn't really anything new, pretty much standard shooter, BUT the graphics are unbelievably beautiful and firing blasters and killing stromtroopers was a blast and a very nice change of pace from Call of Duty or Battlefield. Boomerang Posted July 20, 2015 Author Posted July 20, 2015 Have thought about the early access on this title, still haven’t decided yet. The first person perspective does look good, wonder if it will it remain available when holding a light sabre tho, like in Jedi Outcast ? Star Wars without space action? .... Sheeeeesh! All being said, I have loved Star Wars from the very beginning.
9./JG27golani79 Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Haven´t played any game of the series yet but I might give the new game a try.
Willy__ Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 The first person perspective does look good, wonder if it will it remain available when holding a light sabre tho, like in Jedi Outcast ? On the old battlefront series when you spawned as "heroes" (either jedi or sith) the camera changed from 1st person to 3rd person and there was no option to play as a jedi/sith in 1st person. Maybe in the new one it will be the same ?
Blooddawn1942 Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Once there has been a Star Wars mod for Battlefield 1942. This was really impressive. Not a fan of nowadays onlineshooters. But I guess I will have a look at this one.
SharpeXB Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 (edited) Fighter Squadron Mode! I hope it supports TrackIR though because I can't stand 3rd person arcade flying games. Only the cockpit view for me. Edited August 6, 2015 by SharpeXB
Chuck_Owl Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 (edited) I thought for a long time about buying (or not) Battlefront... I thought "with all these sims on my computer, why the hell would I play that arcady stuff?" And then a friend of mine brought over his old Nintendo 64 and Rogue Squadron... boy, the memories rushed back. I saw parts of my childhood flash before my eyes... heck, it's Star Wars! I pre-ordered right after that. Pew pew pew pew pew pew! Edited August 7, 2015 by 71st_AH_Chuck 1
71st_AH_Hooves Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 It looks very much like you are playing the movie rather than playing a game IE: everything is UBER simple. Which is fine by me because its Star Wars. I think it might get away with it too!
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Frankly it looks to simpe and hektic to me. Guess it will be quite ok wit mouse and keyboard but horrofying with joystick (sth quite a bunch of dice games have in common). TrackIR support? No Dice game did have that yet. Best thing you may expect is mouse look. Not saying it's bad but somehow it lacks the gameplay depth I had been hoping for. It looks nice and well but seems too simplistic to motivate on long term appart from getting "unlocks".
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 https://youtu.be/XQH3Bng8hvM I think it will be more suited for pad than mouse or joystick.
SharpeXB Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 I actually find the third person style of arcade flying games to be really awkward and frustrating. The shooter part of SW Battlefront looks like more fun.
Boomerang Posted October 25, 2015 Author Posted October 25, 2015 I actually find the third person style of arcade flying games to be really awkward and frustrating. I do as well, it's not the same as the first person perspective, it robs the emersion maybe? On the other side of the fence, it's okay for the screenshots. Many of the online gamers shoot from the hip these days, I'm just glad there is still a first person perspective around as an option, and tend to stay away from the titles where this lacks.
Boomerang Posted November 10, 2015 Author Posted November 10, 2015 If you haven't already seen this, check it out: http://starwars.ea.com/starwars/battlefront/planets/
Cybermat47 Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I'm rather disappointed by the lack of space battles and Clone Wars.
Ace_Pilto Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 The Beta was fun, awesome graphics and sounds.
SharpeXB Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Too bad it has no SP game and is multiplayer only. That's really lame. The excuse was because they couldn't think up a good enough story so they figure nobody would play it. Seriously? There's only about a billion Star Wars novels and other games and comic books and cartoons every other kind of Star Wars story imaginable. But EA can't figure one out. Pathetic. Battlefield 4: $59 for SP + MP SW Battlefront: $59 for MP only. Multiplayer-only is for $14.99 games on Steam. 3
150GCT_Veltro Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) Grenades everywhere and...............jump, jump, jump all around. I would have prefer a more "severe" Star Wars gameplay. It will be a total chaos i'm afraid.... I hope at least in some infantry combat like this one, only with classic Star Wars blasters (3'30''): Everytime i look at this opening scene i can't believe it. How has been it possible in the 1977 to create a so great movie, with those insane Stormtroopers !? Edited November 10, 2015 by 150GCT_Veltro 1
6./ZG26_Custard Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I have to admit I'm not a fan of this game. It plays like Call of Duty with Star Wars skins. It's a very hefty price tag for what seems to be a clone of a "popular" title with some terrible spawn points thrown in for good measure. I must add that I stopped being a fan of CoD after Call of Duty4 Modern warfare, the best of the bunch imo.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Yeah it's a pity how this game is being handled. It's a 2-bladed sword with very nice and authentic graphics and sounds, very imersive ambience and movie like appearance that even turns Star Wars critics heads, on the other hand gameplay is kept on a very low nevau without any real depth to it. The limited content was not as bad in my opinion IF the gameplay was entertaining enough and feauturing enough variety. The sad thing is, that the trailers, teasers and gameplay footage look amazing (apart from the grenade, jump pack and personal shied plague). Their intros and cutscenes really show the potential for a great SP campaign for example. Either way I haven#t played it, boycotted the beta due to Origin and mixed feelings about the gameplay. If they just raised player count to 60, make fixed spawnpoints with bases, free availabel vehicles and remove that Star Cards system (and the always "You Scored a Headshot 1,000,000,000 points" popping into your face messages) I'd be less critical. As that's probably never going to happen I'll wait until it drops to ~30$ or (that's more likely) wait for another great Star Wars game to show up. 1
6./ZG26_Custard Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Yeah it's a pity how this game is being handled It's a very unfortunate occurrence in the majority of AAA gaming titles these days, where game play is dumbed down in favour of flashy graphics or a franchise badge. Arkham Knight has to be one of the worst AAA releases in recent years. The combat is just dire because all you have to do is spam one button to win.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) I wouldn't say it's dumbed down in favour of graphics. DICE is a big enough team with more than enough founds to create a great game without such compromises. It's more likely a (bad) combination of making the game "extremely simplistic" and "all different from Battlefield" (as such also very different fro the original Battlefront games). These include automatic spawn points leading to unavoidable spawn killing, mouse aim like mouse controlls for fighters, weird 3rd person views for vehicles making sure you can observe the whole battlefield without blind spots, regenerating energy so you learn to camp instead to fight ect. That's all due to efforts of making the game "easier". As much as people compalined about the "Battlefield clone" not all of it was bad in concept and could have brilliantly applyed to Battlefront. Large scale vehicle conflicts with interiours and crews are missing completely in SW BF. Not to forget the space battles (I can live with that however...for now). Sure that may be overcriticized and not prevent the masses to throw money at Dice but I surely hoped to see more depth added to the game. Especially considering it is being developed by a well founded team such as Dice. Edited November 10, 2015 by Stab/JG26_5tuka
6./ZG26_Custard Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Battlefield 2, wonderful the rest for me are generic clones. Dice committed a cardinal sin in my view and got into bed with the "first order" that is EA 1
150GCT_Veltro Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Great marketing policy, at least. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mByznNYCWTY 1
6./ZG26_Custard Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Great marketing policy, at least. Very flashy, just think of all those dollars they will make. 1
[CPT]milopugdog Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Very flashy, just think of all those dollars they will make. Oh boy! I can get the ultimate edition for only 119.98!!! What does it include? The normal stuff, instant access to certain weapons, map beta thingy, a season pass... HOLY COW, SPECIAL EMOTICONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 (edited) First (critical) reviwes just confirm what I expected, I'm surely passing that game for now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAf0QnLFS7Q Edited November 17, 2015 by Stab/JG26_5tuka 1
sop Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Playing KOTR2 atm (ya I'm excited about the new film like most) I saw the gameplay in this title and just doesn't apppeal to me, especiallly the hero crap, it might get better over time.
Mysticpuma Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I saw the new Battlefront at E3. Jason Totally agree with you Jason. I am playing it on PS4 and it's just fun. Pick it up, be amazed by the graphics and sound, fly X-Wings and Tie Fighters, control at AT-ST's....and the large battles like in Supremacy mode give you a sense of scale...it feels like you are in one of the films I didn't buy it as a Star Wars Simulation, I bought it to have fun and currently it is living up to that expectation and as I said, it looks and sounds great. Cheers, MP
150GCT_Veltro Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) PC version here. I would have prefer some more close combat maps and games, totally missed in the game, with the typical Star Wars tunnels battle. Actually is really too arcadish for my opinion, but i'm sure it would be a better game without the grenades, really a game killer actually in the way this feauture has been coded. Really unbelievable. One only grenade for each players is just ok. I would have also preferred a cockpit at least for the AT-ST. Like in BF, we can use all the empire and rebellion weapons.......... The good. Stormtrooper lovers like me will be happy for the model and first of all for the blaster that is really amazing, as for the laser that have been created perfectly, with the original sound. The blaster festival is really amazing, and it would be really insane without grenades. It's fun but probably we'll be bored in a few time without a strong restyling of the gameplay, grenade at least. The price itself is really too high. Ok we are talking about SW but it's really too high for these maps only. 7/10 Edited November 20, 2015 by 150GCT_Veltro
Boomerang Posted November 21, 2015 Author Posted November 21, 2015 I'm still downloading... I did try the Darth Vader gameplay for a short while. The animations, lighting, sounds and graphics look good so far. I knew what I'd be in for, before deciding to shell the brass, but it's Star Wars. Seems to run well on a Hyper threaded compact PC, but dual cores are a no go for this game, (based on what I've experienced to date) On another note, there are many people out there that have waited a long time for this game, so I would guess many would be happy anyway. I have been keeping an eye on this link for quite sometime. Free is always good http://www.swbattlecry.com/
SOLIDKREATE Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 I'm definitely going to be playing lots of the "Fighter Squadron" mode. They even have my TIE Interceptor.
