BOS Skinning Videos?

Hey guys,

Has anyone done an English language skinning video? The only BOS skinning tutorial I found on YouTube is in German. It is usefull but I'm sure I am missing some of the finer points. I have PhotoShop Elements but can use other paint programs if necessary. It's been twenty years since I took on any (semi)serious art projects. I was more of a pen/ink/pencil - BW artist in my prime. Color and paint, even in digital form, will be something of a new frontier for me. I will be taking on my squads skinning duties until someone with more talent than I joins us. Any help in video form is greatly appreciated.

I attempted a video guide earlier but somehow Gimp doesn't like screen recording at all

Sure, the old fashioned way  Don't think my camera could record anything as clearly (+ my accent would probably sound way worse  ).

~S~ SAG,

Thanks for making this. It's something nice to have an example done with a BoS template for everyone to refer to.

I'll be sharing it on our Facebook Group "IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad Community".

And at the end you mention needing to share your files, when actually, the Dserver can be set to allow custom skins to transfer automatically.

Ohh ok, as i said on the video, i havent been active for a while so i didnt really know you didnt have to share files now XD. thanks for the tip though.

are community servers commonly enabled to share skins? i think at least Wings of liberty isnt. i still think its a good idea to let people know. thanks!

Nice tutorial, I want to add some points for gimp users in particular.

1. If you want to make a layered backup file of your skin do not export it as psd. For some reason (can't explain why) gimp messes up with your skins quality if exported asa psd. Instead safe it as gimp file  (.xcs) instead (wprks the same way + takes up a lot less memory on your hard drive than psd).

2. This video shows the bare basic skinning without Alpha Channel work. If you want get into high quality skinning and don't mind having a long read I recommend reading this :http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/15420-custom-alpha-channel-tutorial-gimp-advanced-skinners/

(Note I tried to record a video but somehow my Gimp messed up and didn't let me join layers or safe files while doing so. No idea how SAG manage to mke it work).
