SharpeXB Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 (edited) Nice example since DCS is fully mod compatibel in SP and MP. Yes but the point is that many seem to think modding is the way for these games to "live on"The reality is by the time RoF 2.0 or DCS 2.0 is happening, how much of that improvement came from modding? In the case of DCS I have no idea. But I don't think DCS 2.0 was helped by modding the game. How many mods were officially incorporated by ED into DCSW 2.0? There's nothing wrong with mods but I don't think they help in this regard. When or if RoF 2.0 happens it won't just be a big community mod pack. It will be a completely separate effort by the dev. Maybe some community made mods could be incorporated but probably most won't. The example of TD in hindsight, may not have been the best way to have handled that. So 1946 + TF might not be a good example of how this transition can be handled . Certainly CoD +TF is not. Edited July 23, 2015 by SharpeXB

If mods would be implemented into game itself it would no longer be a mod but a 3rd party developed feauture. Modding is purely optional. People that like it can have it, those who don't have not to use them. Thats why there's no need to implement them. Reminds me of another example. Take a look at Arma 3 and how mods were developed further into official content. It's one of the few good examples of how modding really can help improving games and their longlivety. As long as FMs, DMs and weapons files are off limits I see no problem what soever with mods. 1
SharpeXB Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 (edited) As long as FMs, DMs and weapons files are off limits I see no problem what soever with mods. It's possible in RoF to mod the damage model and weapons at least to a certain degree. There are mods which for example make the wings stronger and change the rate of fire.I don't have any problem with mods either other than the idea they might appear on servers. But based upon RoF, that isn't likely to happen. Edited July 24, 2015 by SharpeXB
