That is a nice shot. I wouldn't call the deflection angle 'extreme' (I've certainly shot down a lot of planes from higher angles) but it is still a very difficult shot, because it's a blind shot (target hidden behind gunsight) and the distance is fairly large. I don't think I've ever made a kill shot at that distance except from a dead six o'clock.

In the old IL2 I used to practice high angle deflection shots almost daily, you'll be amazed what you can get away with after a while. What I do is setup a quick mission with yaks 1 or 2 thousand m below me (this isn't about fair it's practice). You spiral climb until you are in a position to rope a dope or B&Z and make sure you never shoot from dead six only take high angle shots. With time you learn to place yourself in the optimum position above the enemy and how to anticipate his break turn. If you look at the online kills on my youtube channel you'll see what I mean, they look really easy but the hard bit is setting yourself up in the first place so that you don't have to maneuver much in the approach which gets hard as your speed increases in the 109.
