Are there any advantages to using HDMI over DVI? I know HDMI supports audio with a monitor w/speakers but seeing as the video is digital either way are there any benefits?

DVI doesn't support 4k (with one cable), but other than that, there's no real difference. I personally prefer DVI for PC, because it's sturdier and cheaper and because HDMI doesn't have a locking mechanism. I would use Display Port, if i had the option (which i haven't).

The biggest difference is that HDMI supports High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) so you may not be able to watch high def content from a Blu-ray player via DVI. DVI supports up to 1920x1200 max on a single cable wheras HDMI can handle up to 4K/60 on version 2.0. HDMI can carry audio and Ethernet on the same cable.
