No_85_Gramps Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Are there any advantages to using HDMI over DVI? I know HDMI supports audio with a monitor w/speakers but seeing as the video is digital either way are there any benefits?
Matt Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) DVI doesn't support 4k (with one cable), but other than that, there's no real difference. I personally prefer DVI for PC, because it's sturdier and cheaper and because HDMI doesn't have a locking mechanism. I would use Display Port, if i had the option (which i haven't). SharpeXB Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 The biggest difference is that HDMI supports High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) so you may not be able to watch high def content from a Blu-ray player via DVI. DVI supports up to 1920x1200 max on a single cable wheras HDMI can handle up to 4K/60 on version 2.0. HDMI can carry audio and Ethernet on the same cable.
