Despawning in Combat in Multiplayer

Hi Pilots!

I've just had a Multiplayer dogfight and was shooting down a enemy fighter, and just as he started to trail dark smoke and catch fire, with the pilot bailing out, the entire Aircraft, Pilot and smoke trail disapperared within a millisecond.

You know what that sight produces?

The sick feeling that tells you, that you are NOT flying a WW2 warbird, but are sitting at home in front of your computer game.

Because never ever has an aircraft, smoke trail or pilot in a parachute disappeared from the sky in real life. They all were there and finally came back to earth, one way or another.

How can this be fixed?

Maybe disable midair-despawns and let the aircraft go down to the ground without a pilots control?

For sure there are better ways to tell you, yep, your enemy just hit escape and left the game....

Not that I did not feel good about my air victory, just it had been more fun if that disspawn didn't occur.

Thoughts?

Maybe undamaged aircraft should disappear as is but aircraft with any sortsort of damage just go to no in input and eventually crash

Is this a serious post? That one rare instance where someone rage quit and disappeared, this happens in DCS as well. I don't see how this is a big deal, I can't even remember the last time it happened to me, if it ever did.

Could have been a game crash on their part or they got disconnected. I was closing in on one plane and then it just vanished. I get cut off sometimes too.

I agree, this doesn't seem like a real issue to me, more of a "manners" issue of individual players.

Having said that, yesterday I was flying and my track IR didn't engage (didn't notice until I was in the air and engaged), however I let the guy shoot me down (I did try to fight, but the hat switch head movements are tied to trim, and in a La-5 that's an issue) then I bailed and quickly hit ALT+F4 to close and restart the game.  The player who the OP is talking about might have been me, because I wasn't bailed out long before I just closed the game.  Not even sure if my chute deployed.

This is easily remedied by the server admin adding a couple seconds to the "finish flight" timer.

When players do that and they've accrued damage, a kill is typically awarded. I've had that happen where someone either crashed or rage quit, and the plane was damaged so I was given a kill.

At least leave the plane in game, make the pilot bail and let it crash.... problem solved.

To the guys with the sarcastic comments.....  I have seen you in the arguments regarding FMs etc. and as far as I am concerned this is also a very important aspect of realism. Disappearing aircraft is as important to some of us as much as prop pitch, mixture and turbocharger modelling is.

Nemesis, the feeling is that somehow you've been cheated.

I feel the same way, but after quickly rolling my eyes and laughing at the individual concerned, I'm more concerned about checking my 6 to make sure nobody's going to get me!

Mind you, when I've been shot down I'm usually grinding my teeth and getting close to rage-quit so I understand why it's done. Usually when a Yak has managed to make up an insane energy deficit and catches up with me in my FW *whine whine*.

That's life for you, so it's not worth stressing about.

Those servers with 15 seconds disconnect time helps a lot. I think Jason said that it would count as a kill/crash if anyone disco online.

Well, that's because you are in a office chair in front of a desk with a fancy cheap plastic joystick, warm and

safe, so how the hell this is even close to be in a WWII plane, to complain about disconnecting lads.
