Graphics engine and new 64 bit exceutable model are the same as EDGE.

Updater will not update, think i will wait until further updates and is out of beta, no rush,..only good thing about DCS is you get used to being patient about things like this ;)

The graphics look virtually the same to me (from that video) I've not got DCS installed at the moment.

The performance gains can`t be seen in the video, you have to feel them! ;)

I don`t know, which video you are talking about, but remember, that the Caucasus map is still the same as in version 1.2. Differences can be seen i.e. in the lighting effects, shadows, visibility of objects... But the main difference so far with the old map is the outburst of performance, which is the groundwork for things like missions with lots of objects, use of Oculus Rift,...

Right now we have a new graphics engine with the same old art assets. It was never going to be a night and day difference. The real change will come when we start seeing some new maps that take advantage of the new engine's features. That said, the new engine did boost performance substantially and universally from what I've read. I gained about 40% fps on my system. And it does have better lighting effects, particularly terrain shadowing. So yeah, it's half the DCS2 update, hence the 1.5 bit. Once the new art assets are in, I expect it to be a lot prettier than BoS/BoM. Still won't be competitive for WW2 though, pretty graphics aren't enough for that. But it's going to seriously rock as a chopper sim.

It sure will! :)

It's such a darn shame I don't have time to organize these Airmobile events anymore... they were nice!

Mi-8 is fun to fly.I only wish there was a proper update of the Caucasus map into EDGE (or maybe a new map like Afghanistan, noname central europe or such) It really detratcs me from flying DCS more, the map is just so outdated that it hurts my eyes

As I've had Lomac and it's successors from release I was expecting the usual horrible tussle with downloads and installation that anything to do with DCS involves and sure enough, with the 1.5 beta the ED guys didn't let me down!

After a six day battle I finally got this thing up and running last night and this evening got all my modules installed and SweetFX working and Wow!  Really, really impressed.  Great, solid performance with everything cranked right up and it looks goooood.  Yes,  quite a few crashes but this is early days and I really think EDGE is gonna' breath new life into DCS.

I don't give two hoots for DCS WW2 and frankly think they're wasting their time but if you like jets or choppers and have lots of patience;  this is it.

Bring on the Straits of Hormuz :salute:

There have been masive fps improvements with DCS 1.5 version, gameplay is much smoother(high fps),has better smoke effects, light effects .But the ww2 side of things is missing a lot of things to be playable at the moment.

Anyone got some good pics of the new trees, are they new?

There are no new trees on the black sea map, only for Nevada.

Wow! A beautiful model, right there!

Looks like it's not too different from our own I-16, except the cockpit looks better.

CAN'T WAIT!

DCS is great, but once you leave modern jets I get the feeling it's kind of stuck between being a civilian study sim and a combat sim. There are lots of high-fidelity aircraft in development, but not much of an overall plan. For a combat sim you need a fairly big number of aircraft from one era (some can be AI of course), but DCS doesn't seem to progress that way. So while free flight or duels over Normandy are cool, it's still far from being a combat sim in the mould of Il2.

(In fairness to the DCS developers they were handed the WWII project after the original developer bit off more than he could chew, so I understand their situation.)

I don't think its out.  As far as I know the old map is still the only one available.

I haven't even seen a WIP-shot of the Normandy map yet.

They only started gathering info regarding airfield history around last new years. I would say years away 2017?.

Nevada NTTR - loooooooooong time announced maybe came this year.

The next map on list is Straight of Ormuz, guess ~2017/18.

Then in/after 2020...

Normandia early WiP (Luthier's time).

As the Normandy map is now developed by a 3rd party team, the Strait of Hormuz project has no impact on the development of the WW2 map.

Is it? Link please.

That was what I was thinking for Normandy  too.  A playable beta in 2017 and a proposed official release in 2018.

performance is pretty mediocre. guess they still think everyone's using single core cpus from 2005

Most of us get a rock solid 60 fps.

Your statement is utter nonsense.

My system is in no way super duper :)  DCS 1.5 with everything on max, v-sync on.

With v-sync off fps goes into three figures.  A revelation :salute:

That looks awesome.

I really enjoyed FC3 if they still call it that but the graphics were getting a bit old.

It's still FC3 but is now fully integrated into DCS. You don't need to scrounge up a copy of LOMAC anymore. They've also been updating it with new full 6DoF cockpits and more detailed flight models.
