Can't select custom skins in Plane Setup

As the title says.

 

I've downloaded a bunch of skins, they are extracted tot he correct data/graphics/plane_name directory and I cannot select them in campaign or in multiplayer. They just don't appear at all in the GUI.

 

Does anyone have any ideas what I'm missing?

You have never been able to use custom skins in campaign, but for MP something seems to have happened in the last update. I can't choose custom skins either.
