Spacesheep Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Hi all, Wanted to start a new topic about those in the community that extend the pleasure of flying from PC to real life. As I am now working to get the Ultralight licence on multiaxes, I am very interrested in looking at some real life POV from people who allready have some experience (or not) and that would like to share it On my side I make a first move with this video of my first Solo flight on Eurostar Ultralight. Only 10 lessons with instructor so please be nice and tolerant with my technique eventhough I'm really open to your critics, remarks or maybe advices. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsecXYaodVA anyway, I hope you'll enjoy the flight... If not... well, be sure I did it for you ) S!
unreasonable Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I enjoyed watching that: looks like fun, even if you had to fly left handed. I am filled with envy.... but congratulations on your solo! Your hat is also good - a pleasant change from those tiresome yankee baseball caps.
Spacesheep Posted July 11, 2015 Author Posted July 11, 2015 Thanks Unreasonable, yeah left hand was the first step to get into if you want to control correctly your throttle, but I think it came quite rapidly. not a great deal. Lol for the Hat.. it come from Chatuchak market in bangkok. like it too Cheers

6./ZG26_Emil Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) I learn about 'flight' when I was a kid flying games such as F15 Strike Eagle on the C64. I then started flying at the age of 16 and when I was 18 had the opportunity to go to California while my family visited our relatives out there. I was very lucky that we found a guy who had retired from the USAF and was an ex B52 instructor who had set up his own flying school. I did most of my hours towards my PPL there and then qualified when I got back to the UK. The most memorable moment (bar nearly killing myself when I had engine trouble in the landing pattern lol) was getting to visit the USAF base in Atwater/Merced (Castle AFB?) and getting to have a go on the B52 simulator :D Good times Edited July 13, 2015 by JG5_Emil
Blakhart Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 One of the vids from qualification & training flights. I hope you enjoy. 1
Spacesheep Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 (edited) One of the vids from qualification & training flights. I hope you enjoy. That was exactly what I was looking for great POV of impressive action! And congrat's for your qualification! that's the Czesch air force that you're in? how much fying hours before reaching this level? How's the formation flying learning curve? Possible to come and test with you???? thanks for sharing ! want more! S! Edited July 14, 2015 by Spacesheep
unreasonable Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Polish, surely. Hope that is not some kind of central European mortal insult!
Spacesheep Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 (edited) Polish, surely. Hope that is not some kind of central European mortal insult! yep polish, you right. my mistake Edited July 14, 2015 by Spacesheep
Blakhart Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Its not an insult, not everyone have to know all the national markings. ;] min. exp.700 hrs , prefered 1000 + . About learning curve. In such type of formation flying the most important thing is to get used to such minimum distance... To understand how it looks in real and how close it is you should watch that video on a big TV +46 inches. Then you will say... OMG... plus You have to accept the high risk ( one bad move, moment of distraction plus panic and you are dead ) and force your muscles to relax during flight, because natural reaction is a really high muscle tension which really disturb when you try to be as precised as you can. But this is only small part of this business. I`m not good in editing videos ( like for example guys who make videos in IL2 BoS ), this is probably my first which I shared on public. Actually we train in 8 planes formation. Belive me, this is a ride & emotions... Maybe I`ll prepare some vids later. Cant promise, not too much free time during season. For tests you can catch me sometimes in Duel Manni server or in Wings of Liberty. cheers! 1
Reflected Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) Great formation flying video! I only recently started my real life flying career. I've always been fascinated by airplanes, so I wanted to be a fighter pilot. Then at the age of 17 I realized I'm color slightly deficient (red-green), so that made my bubble burst, no professional flying for me, EVER. PPL was and is way too expensive for me so I got into simulators. Then I met a friend who used to fly gliders: I said to myself: what the heck, let's give it a try. I fell in love. It's not only the most affordable form of flying an airplane, but one of the most challenging ones. I find it a real form of art to stay up for hours with no engine. I just completed my 1 hour solo last weekend on a Schleicher K-7, and now I'm preparing of my 3 hour solo. The "office" of the K-7 with the Danube Bend north of Budapest: On a sidenote: many of my old instructors despise flight simulators, so I wasn't very vocal about them. However, I found it an immense advantage during my training. I've always been ahead of my expected level and my instructors always wondered why. I guess flights sims are still a lot closer than no experience at all to real flying. Edited July 15, 2015 by Reflected 1
Hoots Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Basically the same as reflected, if any of you want to fly and feel you can't afford it give gliding a look, pretty much all gliders are rated as semi aerobatic for starters (loops, rolls, stall turns), winch launches are just the best and thermalling with another glider c 50 metres away makes you concentrate (not like that formation video though!). Throw in thermaling with the birds and 300k cross countries and 5hr flights and what's not to love. Winch launch at my place costs.....£8. Glider hire from 27p a minute. You don't pay for instructors. Sims give you an understanding of the basics for sure.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Congrats! Flying gliders is very different from prop aircraft. Personally I lean more towards gliders due to the challenge to stay in the air (only challenge to stay airborne in a prop plane is keeping up with your pocket). Started this beautyfull hobby at the age of 16 and have gained more than 70 flight hours by now I didn't get to flya K7 yet unfortunately. My clubs favourite is the Ls-4. My longest flight was 3 h 45 min .
