=EXPEND=Dendro Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 (edited) I got into a bit of trouble and was on the ropes till I managed to get a grip and get on top. Don't tell me a rata can't climb! Also notice how his tag disappears without him having any damage. Sure this is a bug with the Ratas. Edited July 11, 2015 by DendroAspis
Finkeren Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 (edited) Noone ever said the Rata can't climb. It climbs better than an early series Yak-1. Also: Flying with underwing gondola MG 151s isn't gonna help you get those pesky bumblebees. Edited July 11, 2015 by Finkeren
=EXPEND=Dendro Posted July 11, 2015 Author Posted July 11, 2015 I heard its climb rate would not do the 109 much trouble. Mmmm. Learn something new every day.
Finkeren Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Try without gun pods, you should definately outclimb it easily then. Not by a large margin, but the fact that you're so much faster helps putting distance between you as well.
Guest deleted@50488 Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 How high did it reach? Didn't he get into Hypoxia ?
Saurer Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 (edited) The I16 has an oxigen system, right site of the cockpit http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/17219-i-16-cockpit-guide/?p=271152 Edited July 11, 2015 by Saurer
Finkeren Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Indeed. IIRC the I-16 was the first Soviet aircraft to be designed to carry an oxygen supply.
6./ZG26_Emil Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Your speed looked a bit low for spiral climb and the video starts a bit late so we cannot see what happened prior to that but he appears to have a lot of energy for him to climb up to you. An I-16 really should not catch you at that altitude.

-TBC-AeroAce Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Not really sure from video how much g the rata started with but iv not had a problem with it out climbing me with or with out pods and a full fuel
Y-29.Silky Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 This aircraft seems too easy to fly at the moment. From what I've read, it was a real bastard. 1
Maico Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 I found myself saying "Ole! Ole!! It was like a bullfight. Why is the F4 suddenly the underdog? Uhmmm.
Finkeren Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 (edited) I found myself saying "Ole! Ole!! It was like a bullfight. Why is the F4 suddenly the underdog? Uhmmm.Because many people fly it like they have a friggin' death wish? The Bf 109s have such as large advantage in speed and acceleration that they can easily make themselves untouchable and work as a team to leave the I-16s completely without a chance. Instead you see single F4 jockeys duke it out in slow, low level furballs where it's so damn easy for an I-16 pilot to quickly jump in, pull a lead and pump a quick dose of 20mm into the 109. I think the guys who fly the F4 have become so used to being the best at practically everything, that they think they can get away with pretty much anything. I was online for a couple hours on the official 'normal' server, and it was a bloody shooting gallery with all the 109s and 190s circling around at tree top altitude. The few 109 pilots who played smart, stayed fast and stuck to the vertical however were completely safe from me. It might be, that the I-16 still has alright performance at 6000m, but it sure ain't gonna catch no 109 at that altitude ever. Edited July 12, 2015 by Finkeren 2
SR-F_Winger Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) Must have been the Gondolas. I recently flew a rata on one of the "fastfood" servers. I was practically flying after the action the whole time and when i finally got there it was all done or i found myself underneath 3-8 germans with a ton more of energy. IMHO this is a plane for masochists:) You really get to love your focke when you hop into one of those crates from time to time:) I think the only thing its good for is groundpounding. =EXPEND=Dendro Posted July 13, 2015 Author Posted July 13, 2015 I like the gondolas because normally when I get a hit I can move on to the next without having to chase down to the deck and make sure I get a kill. With just the normal setup I often have to go in again to finish the job. Also, when I come across a PE2 or IL2 I REALLY miss the extra kick. My original point was that I did underestimate the Rata and I never thought it was going to keep up with me in a climb so I was a complacent when it got on my tail. I thought I would just climb and it would be a non-issue. Then he got a few rounds into me and I took notice, but it was too late because I lost more speed with the damage to the airframe. Even with the damage and a bit of renewed respect I was able to turn the fight around put him down and barely made it back to the strip. I rarely go down on the deck and even then I check my surrounds and then make a very fast zoom shot and then climb up for another setup. If I miss a VVS plane on the first swoop I never try and turn because that is just asking for trouble. Of course you always get caught with your pants down on a zoom climb by a sneaky russkie that comes in at full speed from a distance and from 3000m up and just hops on your tail, where they of course, have the wonder flaps and ability to turn at a much higher speed and the rest is history.

mb339pan Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 (edited) wrong tactic from the beginning, salts too slowly 220km / h and does not exploit the speed of your aircraft, any German fighter can escape without problems vs the Rata, from my MP tests Edited July 13, 2015 by 150GCT_Pan 2
