No_85_Gramps Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I've done a fair bit of MP flying on the normal servers but earlier this evening I ventured into one of the expert servers and got my butt handed to me, just what I expected. It was extremely challenging but I enjoyed it none the less. I can see some practice (probably a whole lot)in SP Expert mode on the to-do list for this weekend. Identifying aircraft is a whole new ballgame as well as the ability to keep an eye on the enemy. For those that are looking for a challenge then this is the way to go! 2
Feathered_IV Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Expert is good fun and opens up a lot more possibilities with regards to tactics. It makes some things easier too. Easier to bounce, easier to run away etc.
Feathered_IV Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Just me pretty much. Everyone else is hopeless. 1
71st_AH_Hooves Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 I venture to say Rambo, Elf, and Dillon are probly the top North American Aces
SYN_Vorlander Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 On the european servers there are plenty of Aces that will hand you death. Most are German and Russian speaking players and sqauds.
=EXPEND=Dendro Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Yeah.... MK.MrX and MK.Wolf, Wahn, Tyngus, and then Mano55 and Plant on the Russian side. Thats when I fly more or less on the European times. You can see overall stats at http://il2.info/wlpvp , click on Player vs Player.
SpaydCBR Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 You can see overall stats at http://il2.info/wlpvp , click on Player vs Player. Well that's embarrassing . I'm at 1 win and 4 losses. I got that kill on my first sortie, then lost every other time haha. I kinda don't want to play anymore to not make it worse!
-TBC-AeroAce Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 (edited) Expert is cool if you have a wing man on TS. If not I find I fly in paranoid circles :-) Can just about get away with lone wolf bombing raids. I still think there are too many on expert that don't care for objectives and just df...which personally I find more fun on normal even if each kill is less rewarding,as you will have 10 to 15 fights in a round as aposed to 2 or 3 Edited July 11, 2015 by [TBC]AeroACE
System87 Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 I venture to say Rambo, Elf, and Dillon are probly the top North American Aces Lots of good pilots, but i fear only one... FL RAMBO!!
Y-29.Silky Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I venture to say Rambo, Elf, and Dillon are probly the top North American Aces Maybe recently, I do remember some damn good aces who I haven't seen since the open beta. I still think there are too many on expert that don't care for objectives and just df...which personally I find more fun on normal even if each kill is less rewarding,as you will have 10 to 15 fights in a round as aposed to 2 or 3 Actually, some Expert servers are now set up to have 10-15 dogfights a match. I can't play Normal because it's constant head-on after head-on because everyone knows where everyone else is.
Wulf Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 I can't play Normal because it's constant head-on after head-on because everyone knows where everyone else is. If a head-on is to occur it requires the participation of 'two' players. There's nothing about Normal servers as such that make head-ons compulsory.
7.GShAP/Silas Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 If a head-on is to occur it requires the participation of 'two' players. There's nothing about Normal servers as such that make head-ons compulsory. Maybe not compulsory, but the comparatively small area and artificial assists make them inevitable. I'd imagine that's a large part of the appeal, but I don't want to speak for others.

I'd imagine that's a large part of the appeal, but I don't want to speak for others. The way people choose to fly determines whether head-ons are inevitable or not. Icons and range-finding actually allow you to avoid head-ons - if you're so inclined. It all comes down to 'how' you fly. In my experience, people who fly on DF servers, of whatever kind, are generally there because they want to fight, and the sooner the better. Caution all too often appears to be a secondary consideration.
SharpeXB Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Expert is the only way to play IMO. Icons and padlocks make real tactics less possible since the enemy can never lose sight of you. Bouncing or surprising anyone is impossible. Icons are also an incredible crutch for the player and prevent you from ever learning to really "see" and gain awareness or to ID any of the aircraft. They're a fine game aid but also a legacy from the days these things were played on 11" screens. I like how BoS scores you double points for Expert in the campaign. As it should be. Hopefully that experience encourages more people to play at that level online as well.
ENDLESSS Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 (edited) As much as flying in the normal dogfight server goes I do think it is very valuable as to learn how to shoot at and evade human opponents basic fundamentals to survive in the expert server spotting contacts takes time but it is allot harder to learn evasive and aggressive tactics when you only make contact with the enemy in 15 minute intervals I have had allot of time on the normal server and as it stands I average 7-10 kills a mission and in the expert server im now at 9 kills for only 2 deaths but I much prefer the expert server as its much more imursive Edited July 16, 2015 by Endless
=EXPEND=Dendro Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Yeah Endless... I have seen you on the normal servers and you do well. I think the normal matches are ideal for honing your skills on expert. They really made a difference to my tactics in the LW aircraft and it improved on my expert sorties drastically. The ability to get 15-20 engagements in an hour is invaluable experience even though it is arcade because it teaches you about your planes limits, advantages and disadvantages as well as your opponents. Shooting, deflection shots, angles, speed to climb, speed to dive, angles, tactics, teamwork...... its all there to learn rapidly in arcade mode and if I were to advise someone on where to start it would definitely be on the normal servers. Once you are getting a few kills or at least more than you are going down in flames then you can try taking on expert.
7.GShAP/Silas Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 (edited) I would be cautious of having a new flyer hop into arcade first. The flying practice can be very useful, but the aids, assists and simplifications often teach bad habits that can be harder to unlearn and leave behind than just starting on expert. But that's a choice people have to make themselves. Edited July 16, 2015 by Silas
Georgio Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Worst part of flying expert is bouncing an enemy only to find it's one of yours, by the same token the terror of discounting someone as friendly only for you both to realise at the same time you are looking at an enemy plane is hilarious. 1

KoN_ Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 (edited) We should have a states page like............... SEOW Spits vs 109 Aces over Europe . states should be reset at the end of each month . like aces over Europe and spits vs 109 . IMHO it will gather more people into the on-line servers who enjoy watching their score go up or down and also see who is best bomber pilot and dog-fighter and who has had more impact on the missions......... ect . ect . A good states system like above can bring more into the community. Edited July 16, 2015 by II./JG77_Con
-TBC-AeroAce Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 I think normal vs expert is a stupid convo. They both have clear positives and negatives and both are interesting and challenging in different respects. I.e normal can be fun because u can't just get lost in clouds making you have to squeeze every last bit of performance out of a plane where as expert make you look around, navigate correctly........ Imo expert is for squad and real organized flying and normal is CBA have a beer relax, have some quick fun. Not to say thou that team work an organization can't be used well in normal as it is leathal
