F11, HDR and SSAO Questions

Don't be that disappointed guys. I think the bubble 4x option is simply bugged and not working, and they will correct it.

I ended up turning SSAO on and HDR off.

SSAO is really needed to have all those little cockpit shadows that make it look more realistic and not like old Il2.  I prefer to turn HDR off because if I turn it on everything has "high exposure", something that does not look realistic to me. If I turn it off I have more contrast between shadows and highlights, something I always wanted in this sim.

Bubble thing is about the same for me as before this patch. Not so clear bubble edge as in the picture tomcatqw posted here but it is visible of course. No game breaker for me but sure hope devs will improve that.

Otherwise game is beautiful, second to none in flight sims IMO.

Hi all,

Im running an Intel 950 i7Bloomfield and a Evga580GTX 1.5 GB. I know, the museum wants it, right?  I am hoping to have time to put my new rig together soon.  I am gathering from these posts that turning SSSAO and HDR off will give better fps...  What else can I do to improve fps.  Mind you, I just reloaded my Win7 so my machine is running like a champ.  Im trying AA at 2x and AF at 4x  The ground and textures look awesome but I want a little more fps.  It can be more smooth..

I am hoping Mastiff out of the kindness of his heart, will share his Nvidia settings.  ;-)

Good day all

try ingame graphics settings set to STANDARD and SSAO and HDR to OFF....also AA at 2...in Nvidia control panel set texture filtering quality to PERFORMANCE and Aniso to off.

I am a little confused about what has been done. What I see is:

1) The texture tiles - square, straight edged, the detail depending on distance and camera zoom

2) Object models, (planes, buildings, vehicles etc)  visible at a fixed distance irrespective of zoom (was 7km in RoF, not sure what it is supposed to be here)

3) The "bubble of treeness", a circular area around the camera in which tree detail is enhanced - or perhaps trees become models rather than a texture illusion - leading to a very visible boundary.

Is 3 just an easily visible case of 2? What is the radius? Are all objects treated in the same way? Is the new integrated distance slider affecting all of these or just determining the detail of the tiles?

Is there anywhere a definitive description of the various distant visibility effects and what can be done to adjust them?

  Blackram,

Thank You very much.  I guess my hard head refuses to understand that althou my hardware was state of the art in 2010, it is now a state of shame.  I did your settings and got "OMG! this is good"  I then turned things up gradually until I got to where I am now.

STANDARD /SSAO On/HDR Off/ AA at 2/ Nvidia control panel, Quality/Aniso at 4.

With this I am getting blistering performance and still beautiful graphics.  No, I cant see the wrinkles in the snow like before but who cares about this when the game is a slide show.

  Again, thank You very much.

New Rig in the works this weekend.

@Maico: What kind of FPS do you get with those settings? I have a worse rig than yours, and I use it on Ultra, SSAO, 3x landscape and 4x AA with OK FPS (Around 30 inside the cockpit)
