SPEKTRE'S skin concepts for Jagdgeschwader 8

Hello all,

I'd like to submit my Bf-109F-4 profile concepts for the fictional unit Jagdgeschwader 8. I will be making the entire unit. It consist of Three Gruppes with three Staffels each. The command did not use standard camo patterns. Some of the planes had custom pilot directed paint schemes that they feel were more tactically advantageous through flight experience of the battle theatre.

I will only post profiles in this post. Please do not post any images as replies. If you need to show me something, use the 'Attach' feature. I'd like to keep this thread as clean as possible. Anyways enjoy.

I like it, but I feel the small spots covering the nose don't quite fit. The Eastern Front 109s I have seen with special nose camo have closely interweaving "worm like" shapes, not dots.

I like the shade of yellow, was it a standard colour? some of the skins shown in the alpha livestreams had a very lemon yellow shade, which i just don't like (from a purely personal perspective).

 

I am no expert on Luftwaffe colour schemes by any stretch...is the yellow identification colour a standardized RLM type colour? was it different on the Russian front compared to Western Europe?

The light blue (or RLM 02?) spots were used by one or serveral squadrons of JG52, I think one of them was 13. slowakische.

I used the RLM 27 Gleb. The yellow used in the live streams has too much of a green hue to it.

Have you ever done any desert 109s Spectre? I really like Cpt. Farrels skins but I hardly see him do any desert 109s. Foobar does really good ones but I don't know if he'll be doing any for this sim. The Mediterranean is my favorite theater and maybe we'll go there some day

How do we get these custom skins game? Are they only available in custom games or are they sanctionable by 1C for Multiplayer?

 

Also, any plans for fictional JG8 to be BOS squad?

Red was also never* used on the eastern front as a staffel colour, it was substituted by black.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

*there are some pictures of SchlG1 that show red markings but these were probably propaganda pics.

Anyway, probably a case of interpreting black as red on pictures unless there is a quote form him stating otherwise - do you have any sources for this other than a (probably wrong) profile?

In my book Aces of the Russian Front some of the planes did have red. I was also just following the standard staffel colors for 1, 2 and 3. I know eventually there was blue later in the war. I have even seen planes (profiles) with brown (late war)?

Brown was used by JG54 as a substitute for yellow. Blue was used for 4. 8. and 12. Staffel when the Gruppen were extended to 4 Staffeln.

I mean, I have no definite proof that red wasn't used, but it would make sense not to, to avoid confusion with the red star. And apart from the few JG52 profiles in the book with many many more in black in that book, it does seem odd.

 

But since this is a fictional JG, I suppose you can of course decide to use red

I remember watching a model builder on a VHS tape I rented. He was doing the camouflage on a Bf 109 G10 and remarked that you had to pretty much guess about the colours. This tape was made in the late 80s. I think it's nice that we don't have to pick colours out of thin air anymore when we paint German aeroplanes.    Brett Green from Australia said the 109 was the most popular model aeroplane to build for pro modelers. Probably because of all of it's different camouflage scemes. Go to 3:40 and he talks about why he like the 109

JG 2 "Richtofen" had a three Staffeln (10, 11 & 12.) Nachtgruppe during the first stages of WW2,

the IV.(N)/Jagdgeschwader 2.

But it was an exception, not the rule.

I updated both of my current skins. Two grammar corrections and I turned 2./JG8 into a winter camo, standard but slightly not.

Well I like the whole Mediterranean because you have a large land mass with a lot of variety from the desert to the sea to the hills in Italy etc. Also there's F4s all over the place

Another update for a winter camo pattern. This is for 3./JG8 also displaying the Geschwader emblem. the Geschwader inscription says 'Honor, Bravery, Precision". It's the units mantra meaning fight with honorable and bravely and hunt with precision.

 

I have also added a concept of a winter night fighter wing IV Gruppe 10./(N)JG8.
