Weather Report

Hello all,

Is there a way to view the weather report information of wind speed and direction at various altitudes if you aren't flying the He-111 or Pe-2?  I'm starting to have a bit of fun with general navigation and would like to practice plotting a course and accounting for wind drift.

In your Bombsights.

Yep, but he's asking, when not flying the He111 or the Pe-2... and,  I assume, flying in Expert mode, without the HUD with wind info...

Isn't the weather on the top of the O map in a drop down box? I'm afk so can't check

When you are on the bombsight at the middle top is an cloud icon click on it and you have the wind report

Yes, he is aware one can view weather report in bomb sights.. and is asking how to get the report while flying not a bomber. The answer is - there is no easy way. If it's not included in a mission briefing, you can always open the mission with Mission Editor and write down wind layer data somewhere, then fly the mission.

Indeed, hopefully mission builders will be including weather info in their mission briefings when it's significant.

It may be worth pointing out that "excessive" weather is often unpopular in MP because it interferes with homicidal DF fun! For those willing to embrace the the added difficulty, however, sometimes battling the elements is more fun than shooting things.

Personally, I love the weather aspects of the sim (especially after the eternal Tellytubby summer of CloD - NB. other opinions are available). The sheer claustrophobia of fighting under a low cloud base is brilliant!

Yep, thanks exactly what I meant.  I've really been enjoying the aspects of just flying around lately. Thank you for the tip on using the Mission Editor to get that information :salute:.  For MP, I guess I could workaround this by loading up a bomber, noting the information via the bombsight, and then switching to my aircraft of choice.  Either way, thank you all for responding.

Don't get me wrong I love the game aspect of bad weather etc but IRL there would be no air combat on such days unless it was desperate

Just my 2 cents...

from the usual civil flightsim user perspective of mine, I would like to say that indeed IL2 BoS's weather modeling is unique, for instance, in the way it models, so plausibly, wind variation and turbulence.

I simply can't find anyware near effects like these modeled in DCS World, FSX or X-Plane. Aerofly FS does also do a remarkable job in this area, I sould say, and the Condor and SilentWings soaring sims, but those mass sims, MSFS and somehow x-plane too, fall really short from what we have in Il2 BoS, and DCS World too ( things might change with EDGE, so I hope... )
