JG13_opcode Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 You guys that record gameplay videos, are you capturing them in real-time or are you recording a track and then uploading a recording of that? I tried to record a video but it totally tanked my frame rate. Perhaps my system is just too weak.
Y-29.Silky Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 For simple shots I use Nvidia's ShadowPlay, for action shots I go into recording. Using the in-game recording, my frames tank a little only when I'm recording online, but that could be my priceless internet connection as well.
Sokol1 Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 The advantage of the (in game) track record is the possibility to replay the track and record different camera angles.

One thing though...it might be a bug but if you want in cockpit footage do not go to externals because when you return to the F1 view it will be zoomed in. Also I tested Fraps which sucks as it causes problems with SLI. Then I used shadow play which is ok but I got some stutter in F3 view. I then found Dxtory which is amazing but the files are absolutely enormous.....and I mean HUGE!! I made one capture which ended up being 87 gig

Sometimes frantically mashing my shift, control and alt keys together with F1 gets it right again. In any case, what almost always work is to rewind the tape a bit (click to the left of the cursor on the bar at the bottom of the screen).

Yeh it drives me crazy, I generally do my 'in cockpit' footage first and then the external stuff afterwards

-TBC-AeroAce Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 A combination of shadow play and in game record

Jason_Williams Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 We should have some more tools for making cool videos in the not too distant future. I proposed some stuff to the team and I think we are going to implement them this summer if I understand what they told me last. Things like new fixed camera angles and F11 key coming back. When I know more I will speak about it. Jason 1

KoN_ Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 I record in game , then watch track and record track with shadow play , then use handbreak to compress shadow play track . then post to utube .
SharpeXB Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 ShadowPlay is also amazing in that it can go back and recapture your last 5-10 minutes of gameplay for those "wow I should have recorded that!" moments.
Rjel Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 ShadowPlay is also amazing in that it can go back and recapture your last 5-10 minutes of gameplay for those "wow I should have recorded that!" moments. It can also record longer tracks (in case someone else who hasn't used it reads that). I'm not sure if it's limited by anything other than available HD space. For a free program, it does a great job. Good editing skills on my part is the only drawback I have.

Poor guy behind me never knew what hit him , caught in my bomb blast , sorry dude who ever it was . This sim has some amazing stuff . Our squad found this out the hard way while hitting an airfield a few weeks ago. Plucked my buddies wings off like a bug with the secondaries.

Yea i like how it implemented into the Sim the blast radius and shock wave . Really good stuff . In playback you can turn icons on I believe, even if recorded on an expert server. So you can then see who it was that way. Arr ive already deleted the track , shame .
SharpeXB Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 The trouble with Shadowplay, although it's easy on the perfirmance is that it creates a compressed video format. MP4 I believe. Fraps makes uncompressed video that looks as good as your live screen. Of course they are huge files, 90 seconds of 1080p video is 4GB! But when you make a movie edited from this raw footage it will get compressed when you finish which is fine. The trouble is if you double compress the video by starting with already compressed raw footage and then upload it to YouTube which compresses it further. I got the best results going straight from Movie Maker to YouTube and doing the compression only once. I haven't found any software to work with 4K that isn't expensive pro level stuff like Sony Vegas Pro which is a bit steep for making game movies. And the system I have can't run Fraps at 4K. So Shadowplay works ok but it's not great.
Willy__ Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 (edited) Hmm, so if I've set up my keys to have Ctrl + F1 as my cockpit view, i.e. what was F1, what is the settign on the list of key map options I would need to find to return wihtout being zooked in? (so what is mapped to crtl + F1 for you?) LCtrl+F1 - Camera: Track LAlt+F1 - Camera: head-unlinked cockpit These are the default key mappings. Its the last two key mappings inside the Camera Controls category. Edited July 4, 2015 by istruba
Weegie Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 One thing I'm doing just now is looking at making a little video of a Furball track sent to me by another member to show me how to fight & fly in the A3. What you can do if you have recorded the track is slow the play down to 1/2 speed (or slower I guess) and then record your track with Shadowplay, DXTory, Action etc: This gives you more time to pan views etc. Usually I'll record at 30fps from the track. Now when you go to the video editor to do your editing, you run the sections you want in real time at 60fps and if you want any slo mo, these at 30fps. This results in overall smoother video for the real time stuff and the option to slo mo any part of the action recorded.
