Wuerger Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Hi everyone, the new manual says under 3. After the game is installed, a shortcut to the Launcher will be placed on your Desktop. Well, I didn't get one, never have seen the launcher and cannot find a launcher in my BOS directory. Got the DVD Version of the game. Now my question ist: is the manual wrong or not precise enough to this point? To be honest: the 4 described ways to buy the game and different installation ways somehow are annoying me (and others?) a little bit. To me it seems much easier if we all went through the same installation procedure. Thanks für help!
Bando Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Well, all I can say is that for me it worked. You can find the launcher in your installation: \\IL2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\Bin\Game\Launcher.exe Hope this helps.
Wuerger Posted June 14, 2015 Author Posted June 14, 2015 (edited) Sry, Bando, no launcher.exe in that directory. Only a DServer.exe, Il-2.exe and Restarter.exe. And a file called launcher.exe.backup. Strange enough Not sure, but I think to have read somewhere that only the game Version bought from 777 comes with a launcher.exe as DVD and Staem Version make updates via Steam... Bando Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 I'm sorry I was not of any help. I purchased and downloaded the game via the website, not steam. Perhaps you're right and the steam installs differently. I hope you figure it out. Good luck
No_85_Gramps Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 (edited) You can always right-click on IL-2.EXE and send it to the desktop as a shortcut. Not sure how that impacts a steam version. Edited June 15, 2015 by Gramps
Wuerger Posted June 16, 2015 Author Posted June 16, 2015 You can always right-click on IL-2.EXE and send it to the desktop as a shortcut. Not sure how that impacts a steam version. We are talking of bos launcher, Gramps. Not of a way to launch the game. Two different things
No_85_Gramps Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Okay. What if you take the launcher.exe.backup file and rename it laucher.exe? Not sure if that will give you the steam version or the original. Adding .backup to an exe file name keeps it from being executable.
Wuerger Posted June 17, 2015 Author Posted June 17, 2015 That's it, Gramps, it works that way. Thanks for your support. Question remains anyway whether only 777-version Comes with bos-launcher, and steam buyers don't have one
No_85_Gramps Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 (edited) Glad that worked. Don't you have to log into steam and run the game from your game list? I'm not familiar with how steam works, to bad my grandson is not here, he could probably figure it out. I would assume since a steam version get's updated via steam that there has to be some way to launch it. There should be a few steam experts around that can assist. Edited June 17, 2015 by Gramps
Wuerger Posted June 18, 2015 Author Posted June 18, 2015 There seems to be a misunderstanding, Gramps I have got no problems to launch my game via steam, I simply tried to figure out, what BOS launcher was and why steam users don't get a shortcut to BOS launcher as is explained in the manual.
No_85_Gramps Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Oh, I get it now. So they just disable the exe by adding the .backup extension. Sorry for the confusion.
