1CGS LukeFF Posted June 9, 2015 1CGS Posted June 9, 2015 Well done Luke! You made a very valuable contribution to promoting BoS. Salut! It was nice to finally have a use for the stack of Eastern Front books I have on my shelf. I couldn't have written the appendix without them! VikS was also a very big help and answered a whole lot of questions I had. Many of the technical details discussed in the manual come from email conversations I had with him. 3
Jason_Williams Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 It should be noted that there are sections we want to add and there will no doubt be some errors. We'll fix and expand as time goes on just like we did with the ROF manual. Jason 1
1CGS LukeFF Posted June 9, 2015 1CGS Posted June 9, 2015 ^Concerning the appendix: there are some discrepancies in the horsepower values listed in the data table for each aircraft vs. what I wrote for each plane's history. All of the correct horsepower values are listed in the data tables.
radio Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Thank you for the manual. At home next week I will download them. I hope some date it will be translated to german language. Martin
22GCT_RedBaron Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Thank you for the manual. At home next week I will download them. I hope some date it will be translated to german language. Martin +1 ...and to italian language. Fabio
Jason_Williams Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 For those that are already intimately knowledgeable about BOS the manual is not going to be much help. It's designed for new pilots who may not know that much about how BOS works. Areas we need to improve it is in explaining the Campaign system, unlocks and awards in detail and hosting a Dserver to name a couple. There could be a million appendices with interesting info. Jason
JimTM Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Kudos to Jason for the editing work--a valuable part of every great manual.
Jason_Williams Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Kudos to Jason for the editing work--a valuable part of every great manual. Oh Luke doesn't need much editing. He is an old pro at this stuff now. Jason
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 (edited) I thought for sure the icon action engine alerts would of been in this? So can some one tell me what the @ icon means? I'll post a screen I'm on the ipone atm. Edited June 9, 2015 by 71st_Mastiff
pilotpierre Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Once again, well done Luke, you as much de man as Zeus.
Wulf Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 (edited) I've been through the manual a couple of times now but still can't find performance figures for the respective aircraft. Is it known whether this information is to be incorporated within a later edition or has a decision been made to exclude it for some reason? Edited June 10, 2015 by Wulf
-TBC-AeroAce Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 (edited) The actual manual won't open on my android phone. It just opens a blank webpage. What format is the manual in?? Edit ok got it open its a zip file Edited June 10, 2015 by [TBC]AeroACE
-TBC-AeroAce Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Would be cool and would make it easy for new people if there was a tab on the game launcher that opened the manual instead of it being hidden away on the form or in the game directory. Just a suggestion 3
Finkeren Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 I've been through the manual a couple of times now but still can't find performance figures for the respective aircraft. Is it known whether this information is to be incorporated within a later edition or has a decision been made to exclude it for some reason? While it would certainly be a nice appendix to the manual, I don't think individual performance charts for the aircraft belong in a manual. The manual should be solely about how to use the sim. Personally I'd love to see an appendix with not just the performance charts but a fully illustrated list of all aircraft, objects and airfields in BoS along with a guide on how to ID them at distance, but that's obviously going to take a huge amount of dedicated work. For now it's good that we have a proper manual to hand out to newcomers.

Charlo-VRde Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 The manual looks really great, Luke! The screenshots of the actual pilot manuals as you introduce each aircraft are a great touch, and I'll be referring to the cockpit guides often!

I think they look great as well.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 (edited) +1 Looks great, very comprehensive. Should be a great help to new comers. Another piece of the puzzle complete. Edited June 10, 2015 by VR_Stick
Original_Uwe Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Excellent I'm really glad to hear that performance charts are planned to be added later. Should eliminate much angst...hopefully.
Jason_Williams Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Excellent I'm really glad to hear that performance charts are planned to be added later. Should eliminate much angst...hopefully. We don't plan performance charts per se. Just some info on maximums. If someone wants to make detailed performance charts fee free and if they are accurate and presented well I will include them. You must remember our performance system is not so cut and dry and any chart or statements we make about maximum and minimum performance will just cause more arguments because even original sources differ. Jason

Jason I appreciate you're the meat in the sandwich here and quite possibly have little influence over FM stuff, but seriously, the boys from Moscow can't run off a few performance graphs for each aircraft? Seriously? I'd have thought that sort of thing would be easy as pie. I can of course understand your apprehension but withholding this sort of thing just fuels corrosive speculation and conspiracy theories. Wouldn't it be better to just release the stuff up front and then have the debate later about whether this or that value should be reconsidered?
Charlo-VRde Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Chuck's aircraft guide at http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/10268-chucks-aircraft-guide/ has a great chart, similat to one we put in the ROF manual.
Wulf Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 If you're talking about his performance graph (I assume that's what you're referring to, but maybe not), as far as I know it's 'unsanctioned' by the powers that be and therefore meaningless - unless you know for a fact that his figures are extrapolated directly from the game.
