Enough Already please.

Every time I log on to this forum, somehow I log on twice. When I close the forum, I still have a screen which invites me to participate in the Pre-Ordering program. I already have paid my money into the project and pre-ordered.

Having this continual pop-up to shut down every time is very annoying. And yes, I have all pop-up filters enabled.

I don't need to be reminded to pre-order. I've done it already. Enough, please. Thanks.

It doesn't happen to me. Perhaps the problem's at your end?

I don't have that problem either, but I can't stay logged in if I use Safari. Have you contacted support?

Eh? I get a full screen advertisement inviting me to participate in the pre-ordering, and the problem may be at my end? I repeat, what problem?

It's very annoying, it's not a 'problem', unless 1CGS are guilty of giving us 'problems'.

The internet has outfoxed this one.

I bow to your superior knowledge, not to mention your smug attitude, but again, if I have a 'problem at my end', what is it? I would welcome some serious input here. I thank you.

That looks like good dog food you are holding.

Look, I just want to know how to stop this additional sceen popping up every time I log on to this forum. If anyone has something constructive to say, I will welcome the input. Thanks again.

Something caused you enough annoyance to post a complaint about it, that's what's known as a problem - hence why Cybermat replied to you stating perhaps the problem is at your end because he is not experiencing it. Neither is FSM. Neither am I. Neither is anyone else.

Perhaps if you wanted true assistance you could have just asked if anyone else was experiencing it, and how if so how they got rid of it.

Instead, the thread exists in it's current form and you aren't getting help because you never asked for it. And you are the only one, so far, experiencing it.

Good Grief. I'm not going to lose any sleep over this. I'm not going to approach my GP for medication to alleviate the stress involved.

It would seem that, mistakenly, I assumed that everyone experiences this perpetual pop-up. Evidently I was wrong. I apologise. I will re-phrase my query.

How the bloody hell do I stop this happening, because it's pissing me right off? Thanks. :)

Oh, that...why didn't you say so.

Sorry, i don't get that annoying pop up inviting you to pre-order the game.

Are you sure the problem isn't your end Dutch?

Oh, I see. My end has a problem. Maybe I should see a doctor after all.. I knew she was a bit dodgy.....

But anyway, can anyone suggest a valid method of preventing this advertising pop-up manifesting itself every time I log on? Or do I just have to keep on closing two windows where I think it should be just one? Anyone? At all?

Did you try clearing out your history or web cache?

This thread is surreal...

Did you try clearing out your history or web cache?

I was going to say try that..

Do you mean the normal sort of internet history? What do you mean by 'web cache'? I mean, I use my internet history a lot. Sometimes I can't remember where I've been, so it can be quite useful. But I don't know what a 'web cache' is, sorry. :)

Check the link in my second post, Dutch. It gives instructions for each web browser caCHE. To understand what cache check out WIKIPAGES. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_cache

It almost sounds like you have a trojan or bug that is trying to launch another page or something. Do a Malware scan as well.. If you do have Malware it didn't come from here or else everyone would have it..

Thanks, Rob, that's very informative, but it doesn't tell me what to do with it, to stop this annoying pop-up, which I only get from this site. Is it somewhere in 'My Documents'? :)

I had a similar problem where random bits of text would link to ads... no matter what website I was on!

Ok, I'll try to make this simpler. Every time I log on to this forum, I close the forum window and this is behind it;

http://il2sturmovik.com/

I didn't ask for it, didn't do anything to prompt it, but it's always there. It usually appears just as I close the window for the forum. And it gets on my wick. Can anyone advise how to avoid this obviously linked....thingy? Thanks. :)

Sorry Dutch, it does sound like malware or a virus. Ive never seen what you describing here.

I would go in to safe mode and run the normal checks and scans.

What browser you using?

And why are you up at this hour same as me?

Posted

That is unusual.

To clear your cache you need to open your net browser (chrome, internet explorer, etc). In the Tools or Settings section, usually in the corner, look for Clear cache or Clear browsing history. Something along those lines.

Clearing this stuff may mean you need to reenter saved passwords etc. you should also bookmark any sites you tend to access via your history. That way you'll always have the link.

It does sound like some malware though.

Good luck.

Actually, in your browser settings you could play around with Pop Up permissions, and the like. May help.

And why are you up at this hour same as me?

Because he's... BEHIND YOU - DUCK!!!!

Or maybe, just maybe he's a grown up in North America where it is, at latest, a bit before 1am.

:)

That Pre-order screen is the home screen as far as I know, it's the first screen I come to when I visit this site. Have you somehow logged into both screens and not logged out of the other? I mean, I am logged into these forums but I'm not logged into the Pre order screen which shows my account.

Don't have the problem either...

Helpful I know ;)

I haven't heard about such a problem from anyone I know. So it's hard to tell what's wrong. According to that I would say the problem has to be on your end. But maybe a stupid idea. Can you try a different browser? If so, that could figure out at least if the problem is in the browser itself or somewhere else.

I had a similar problem caused by malware picked up from somewhere that decided to try and control only one forum site that i visited, it was also an annoying pop up that screwed up that site, a Ducati forum, I am sure i picked it up somewhere else and it somehow linked itself to that site. Was very annoying, so I understand your plight,

What browser do you use? I think if you follow the advice given you will sort it out, but with some inconvenience, such as losing your history.

This is the hazard of the internet

I have not picked up or experienced any problems from this site either

I agree, your issue might be related to the fact that when you are logged in to the forum, it doesn't log you in automatically to the website.

Or maybe you open the forum via a weird link that opens the 2 pages at the same time?

A lot of possibilities really...

Could you make a video of the situation, or a serie of screenshots with a small story describing what's happening between them ?

That would be really helpful for me to understand the situation, as some parts of your explanation aren't clear to me.

cheers !

It might be a malware problem. If so, I use this: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

It's very lengthy and requires a bit of knowledge, but the resources are all there and have precise and clear instructions. Follow the steps precisely and ask for help on their forums if you don't understand what they want you to do in a particular step.

If it appears to be a pop-up or ad, you might try ad-block plus. I never experienced what you are talking about at any point, so maybe Ad-Block killed it? If you use Firefox/Chrome there is a plug-in available.

Thanks for all the advice you chaps. I conducted a full scan as per BC's suggestion, and my AV didn't detect anything, but I also removed some curious programs which unbeknownst to me seemed to have appeared in my programs list following a download of a mod for Skyrim of all things. :)

Thankfully, whatever was causing it appears to now be gone, so thanks for the help, and you've filled another few gaps in my minimal knowledge of all things computer. Cheers!
